"Pro-Lifers" should be pro-Planned Parenthood

It's never made a great deal of sense to me why so many self-described Christian conservatives have ardently fought to defund Planned Parenthood. Granted, the family planning facility does provide abortion services, however, only 3% of their spending goes to these procedures, while 97% of it goes to improving women's health and preventing the need for abortions. The Texas Policy Evaluation Project furthered my perplexion regarding the matter, as they recently released a study proving my point. After the Lone Star State stripped Planned Parenthood of its funding in 2013, here's what happened: - 35% decline in IUD and implant claims - 27% spike in births One of the authors of the study, Amanda Jean Stevenson, said this about their findings: "The U.S. continues to have higher rates of unintended pregnancies than most rich nations, and we know that U.S. and Texas women face barriers as they try to access preventative services. It's a public health issue that ...

I'm just going to say it - Ted Cruz ate paint chips as a kid

Texas Senator and man known to speak in the third-person to his wife - Ted Cruz - just yesterday told CNN's Candy Crowley that he thinks President Obama may potentially sign a bill defunding Obamacare if he were presented with one. Once again, no, this information did not come courtesy of The Onion . The back-and-forth went as follows: CRUZ: "What I agree with is I think now is the single best time to stop Obamacare, because there's bipartisan agreement that it's not working. The wheels are coming off. And because defunding it, if it doesn't happen now, it's likely never to happen." CROWLEY: "The president is never going to sign a bill that defunds Obamacare." CRUZ: "You know, you may be convinced to that." CROWLEY: "You're not convinced to that?" CRUZ: "I am not at all." CROWLEY: "This is his signature. This is what they consider his signature achievement, so far, of his administration in its fi...

Want to defund contraception? Vote Santorum!

Republican candidate Rick Santorum had this to say recently with regard to contraception: "[Sex] is supposed to be within marriage . It’s supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal…but also procreative. That’s the perfect way that a sexual union should happen…This is special and it needs to be seen as special." I'm so glad to have a candidate whom believes himself to be God and the moral compass for all. Thank you, Mr. Santorum, for your morality and your wisdom. How I wish Mr. Santorum believed in abstinence through marriage so that he wouldn't have the opportunity to share his Godliness with his youngsters. I do have to say I feel a little sorry with The Santorum. If the only sex he's had is during marriage, he's probably only engaged in the adult activity a handful of times in his 53 years. This could make for some catchy slogans and bumper stickers, though, such as: "No Contraception! Vote Santorum!" It's poetic, if I do ...
