Reaction to Rush Limbaugh

Right-wing radio talk show host, Rush Limbaugh, has never shied away from making controversial statements. However, when he recently weighed in on the mandated-contraception debate, many feel he went too far. On February 23rd, Sandra Fluke, a third-year student at Georgetown University Law School, spoke to a Democratic hearing about why birth control coverage is necessary. She brought up one real-life scenario to illustrate this, as a friend of her's needed contraception to prevent ovarian cysts. She then used this story to state that without insurance coverage, contraception can cost a woman up to $3,000 during law school. Instead of listening to Fluke's testimony concerning her friend's need for contraception due to medical reasons, Limbaugh interpreted her words in another manner. On his February 29th show, he stated, "Can you imagine if you're her parents, how proud of Sandra Fluke you would be? Your daughter testifies she's having so much sex she can...

So, a poem of mine received quite the angry responses...

As I've mentioned before, I've joined a number of social networking sites and writers' communities in recent days and weeks to help spread word about my writing and in particular, my books. It's been a mixed bag thus far, but I've been fairly pleased overall. Up till yesterday morning, I had received just one negative review. It was with regard to a comedic excerpt from my most recent book(s), entitled "Girlfriend Application". It had been read by many people and everyone whom commented on it gave it glowing reviews, most of the reviewers being women. Even a 75-80-year old woman (she may actually be older than that) laughed pretty hard when reading the excerpt. BUT, one woman called me an a*shole and that the excerpt made me come across as an a*shole, rude and obnoxious. Yet, she said she didn't like it as much as she thought she did, which would thereby mean she liked it to a certain extent, right? I don't know. ::shrugs::. In any case, that was t...

It's amazing what you can learn about a person after the fact...

For about a year (as of 9 months ago), I was consistently communicating with a female from back home (Omaha). She and I never dated. We just considered ourselves "best friends." We felt comfortable talking to one another about anything, from politics to religion to our pasts to our relationships to our friends and family to our secrets. I've had some trust issues over the past 8 years, so it's been especially difficult for me to start and establish a genuine, complete friendship with another person. I've been able to make partial friends aplenty and acquaintances, but due to the trust issues and my reluctance in opening up much to another person, it made it very difficult for me to make what one would consider a "best friend". It took a while for me to find fully trust in this person, but once I finally let go, it felt great. It felt nice not being so guarded about opening up on certain things or having to over-analyze things before speaking. However, ...

Good To Be Single

Ever know a couple and after hanging out with them for five minutes, you look up to the stars, Gods, or whatever you believe in, and say thank you? I've done that a few times, especially recently. I know a couple who's been dating for quite a while and I can't say where they're truly at in their relationship, but they make me grateful to still be single. All they do anymore is fight and argue over the smallest of things, things that most other people wouldn't notice. But the fact that they've been together for an extended period of time and have gotten to know one another better than most, helps them see things that most others cannot. A certain noise one might make when they drink a beer or when they eat a toaster strudel. The look someone will get when they play a video game. A certain word that a person says. All these things and more were on display for me to witness the other day and boy, was that a lot of fun! It was like watching an unhappy old married ...
