A strange night at the Hilton

What did you used to do on New Year's Eve when you were 7-, 8-, 9-years old? Play with dolls? Watch TV? Play video games? Have a sleep over with friends? Nothing different than any other weekend? I can't even remember what I did on New Year's Eve twenty some odd years ago. Chances are I was chilling at home, getting ready for the New Year's Day bowl games. Well, not all kids are like this, as I learned on Tuesday night at a Hilton hotel in Columbus, Ohio. When walking inside this rather upscale hotel, I noticed a few youngsters roaming about with their parents. I didn't think much of it at first until I came back to the hotel later that night after bar- and restaurant-hopping for a couple of hours. When I ventured inside, I noticed a group of 10 to 20 young kids with their parents not far from the bar area. When asking somebody up front about it, she said that one of the kids was having a birthday party and that he/she did the same thing a year ago. Really? Duri...

I bet your honeymoon was better than this...

Michael Kempfer's wife has had an interesting past week. She married the 21-year old man and then set out for their honeymoon in Florida. After Michael left the hotel and had been gone for a while, his wife reported him as missing. Where was the new husband? Off to meet a prostitute he had been talking to online, only to find out she was an undercover officer. I'm sure after Michael's wife heard the story and spoke to him in jail, she was told by her husband, "Look - nothing happened! I swear!" The Vegas odds are at 1 : 10,979,428,366,111 that the line worked. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/14/samuel-yoon-youth-minister_n_3272619.html

"A" or "An" Historic?

I can't count the number of times I've heard or read someone precede the word "historic" with the article "an." This isn't because I'm somehow deficient at math. I've simply lost track. I'd approximate that four out of five times I hear or read someone utter the two words "an historic," they sound extremely confident when doing so - like they've just wowed the world by thinking they've correctly preceded "historic" with "an," when in fact they're incorrect on the matter. I always find that to be humorous. It's one thing for a person to be wrong about a claim they make. It's quite another for them to be uber-confident about said claim and be wrong. It reminds me of a time back in grade school. Some classmates and I arrived to school early and were waiting for the doors to be opened. For whatever reason, I asked one of them, almost jokingly, what the capital of Nebraska was. For the record...
