While I'm not going to debate either Slate columnist Aisha Harris or Fox News host Megyn Kelly on whether or not we should replace the Christmas mascot of Santa Claus (yes, I see him as a mascot) with a penguin or something else, I would like to briefly comment on one quote of Ms. Kelly's with regard to Harris' column. On Kelly's show earlier this week, she said this: "For all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white. But this person is just arguing that maybe we should also have a black Santa. But Santa is what he is. Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn't mean it has to change, you know? I mean, Jesus was a white man too. He was a historical figure, that's a verifiable fact, as is Santa - I just want the kids watching to know that." Now, if we go by the story we've been told time and time again about Christmas and Santa Claus living in the North Pole, chances are he'd be almost as white as the snow we see around this ...
