This poem is on pages 141-143 of my book, "Seasons Come, People Grow: A Poetic Journey". I block out all those around me, I block out all from entering, The force being too deeply buried, The wall impenetrable, The lies cannot enter my realm, The love and hate shall not either, Protection from the world around me, As I fear the very worst, Protection from ignorance and lies, Protection from dishonesty and bitterness, Protection from insults and pain, Protection from the breaking of my heart, I feel the shield all around me, There to protect from all potential pain, Wanting to melt into nothing, Yet afraid to do such a thing, I wish to spread my arms, Close my eyes, For one to show me the love, For one to overpower and penetrate the shield, So that I may feel again, So that I may cry, So that I may not fear again, So that I may smile.
