Episode 5 of my podcast ("I Feel Snitty"): "The NRA: The Never Rational Asshats (Part 1)," is now available!

The latest episode of my podcast ( I Feel Snitty ), entitled, "The NRA: The Never Rational Asshats (Part 1)," is now available. The show's description is as follows: In part 1 of my two part trilogy, I take on the NRA and the GOP with truth, logic, snark, and non-alternative fact-checks. After listening to this episode, you'll now know how to respond when someone tells you, "Guns don't kill people; people kill people" - and no, it won't be like Jeff Bridges utters in The Big Lebowski, where he says, "Yeah, well, that's just, like, you're opinion, man." So join me in fighting for common-sense gun legislation, for as author Margaret Wolfe Hungerford once wrote, "Gun violence is in the eye of the beholder, literally. You'll shoot your eyes out." I'm now being told she didn't write that. It must have been someone else... You can check out the episode at this link: https://ifeelsnitty.p...

Your Moments of Silence Are Deafening

Shots are fired, Blurred with the drums and bass, Until 909 are injured or killed, Let's have a moment of silence, Lying to the American public, As we send our children off to war, Whenever one of our soldiers has fallen, "Let's have a moment of silence," Twenty kids shot and killed, Six adults as well, As sadness and fear run rampant, Let's have a moment of silence, An accidental overdose, Friendly-fire, A mass shooting, A moment of silence, Forty-nine killed at a night club, A storm devastates the coast, Our neighbors to the south without power, A moment of silence, Your thoughts are insufficient, Your prayers have failed time and again, Silence without action speaks volumes, Your moments of silence are deafening.

Why the GOP's reaction to Trump's abortion comments is ridiculous...

As most people have heard by now, in an interview with MSNBC's Chris Matthews, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump said women who undergo an abortion should receive "some sort of punishment," before later recanting that statement. While I was unsurprised by Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders criticizing Trump for his comments, I found it quite humorous to hear GOP candidates Ted Cruz and John Kasich do so, as they responded with the following quotes: - "Once again Donald Trump has demonstrated that he hasn't seriously thought through the issues, and he'll say anything just to get attention. On the important issue of the sanctity of life, what's far too often neglected is that being pro-life is not simply about the unborn child; it's also about the mother - and creating a culture that respects her and embraces life. Of course we shouldn't be talking about punishing women; we should affirm their dignity and the incredible gif...

How to really thank a veteran for their service

We celebrated Veterans Day this past Wednesday. On that day, I stumbled across a blog posted by Wes Morgan, entitled, "I'm A Veteran - Don't Thank Me," and wanted to share it with readers. Before I make any further comments, here's the blog: "Yeah, yeah, I know...it has become de rigueur for folks to intone, 'thank you for your service' as soon as they find out you’re a veteran. In some cases—usually in public settings, such as athletic events or church services—it has become a ritual to ask us veterans to stand, so that we can be applauded. During my last bit of air travel, the attendant made it a point to thank veterans during the inflight announcements. Now, my Twitter stream is chock-full of local merchants offering veterans free meals, discounts and the like for the next few days. Well, I’m pretty well sick of it. Yeah, I 'wore the suit'...'did a hitch'...take your pick of phrases. Sure, I was trained in a job that I hoped...

The Bernie Sanders and BLM (Black Lives Matter) camps need to stop bickering and start working together

Just yesterday, I got into a rather heated Twitter debate with a die-hard Bernie Sanders supporter, who told me that due to Black Lives Matter activists Marissa Janae Johnson and Mara Jacqueline Willaford interrupting a Bernie Sanders rally in Seattle a little over a week ago, he was no longer a BLM supporter. Sanders allowed the activists to speak at the rally, which I found to be a classy move, however, he himself didn't get to speak for more than a minute, which left many attendees highly disappointed. In the week plus since then, a decent number of progressive blog posts and comments have read as follows: - "Thank you, Marissa Janae Johnson and Mara Jacqueline Willaford! Black Lives Matter!" - "Bernie Sanders Has Always Been a Civil Rights Leader!" - "BLM Activists Should Apologize To Bernie Sanders!" - "Bernie Sanders Should Apologize to BLM Activists!" The two camps have been pointing fingers at one another and bickering ever ...

Trying to accomplish something = a political stunt

Why does it seem that whenever President Obama makes a speech to try and get public opinion on his side to place pressure on Congress to, you know, do their jobs, many on the right side of the political spectrum refer to it as nothing more than a "political stunt"? Obama: Pushing for immigration reform GOP: "This is just a political stunt!" Obama: Fighting for equal pay for women GOP: "This is nothing more than a political stunt!" Obama: Wanting to push stricter gun laws GOP: "Two words - political stunt!" With the 24-hours news media being what it is, yes, presidents and other politicians attempt to increase the favorability of themselves and their party by speaking our for certain causes. However, why must that be the only reason for a politician to advocate action for a particular cause? Why does it seem inevitable to many that a politician is only seeking to improve his or her favorability, as opposed to actually wanting to d...

When words lose meaning

There are times when words can be uttered so frequently, that they lose their impact. I find swear words to be a perfect example of this - the f-bomb, as it's known, in particular. If a person regularly uses said word, and even jokingly tells people to "f-off" at times, the impact won't be nearly as great when he or she tells a person in a serious tone to "f-off." There are also times when words can lose their meaning due to having been said time and again, but without the actions necessary to back up the claim. The first two words that come to mind here are "promise" and "love." The word "promise" gets parents, spouses, and politicians into trouble a great deal at times. A promise may sound lovely at first, but if the person continually doesn't follow through with their promises, the next time they utter the "p" word, it won't carry nearly as much weight as it did initially, and the audience's skeptici...

If Jason Statham or Liam Neeson starred in a romantic comedy...

Anymore, it has seemed as though Hollywood tough guys Jason Statham and Liam Neeson have been typecast as just that. I have trouble envisioning them in a comedy, let alone a romantic comedy. If one of them did star in such a film, however, I have to imagine it'd go by one of the following titles: Valentine's Day Massacre The Gun Shop Around the Corner Shootin' and Bangin in the Rain The Deadly Notebook How to Kill a Guy and Make a Woman Fall in Love With You in 10 Seconds (500) Days Of Making Love and Kicking As* Seven Beauties Wanting a Beast Punching Your Wedding Planner A Wedding and Four Funerals Fight Club

My mother is funny sometimes

My mother said the upcoming film 2 Guns looks "cute." The writers would probably be thrilled with that description: Writer #1: "So, what should we call the film?" Writer #2: "Let's go with something macho, alpha-male... How about 2 Guns ?" Writer #1: "I like it! Two guys, two guns - which can be taken in more ways than one, if you know what I mean! Ha!" Writer #2: "Exactly! If there's one thing I want people to think heading into this movie, it's that it'll be cute." Writer #1: "That can be our tagline - 2 Guns is 2 cute or something like that. We'll work on it..."

What isn't getting reported with regard to the IRS - the 501(c)(4) loophole and Citizens United ruling

More information needs to come to light regarding the recent outbreak of news regarding the IRS for me to fully conclude on the matter. However, at this point, I have a feeling that like with many conservatives calling Benghazi a massive cover-up and scandal being quite an exaggeration, the IRS ordeal is also getting blown out-of-proportion. What seems to be getting ignored by a very large majority of the media is the the effect the 2010 Citizens United ruling had on this whole process. After the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Citizens United by a count of 5 to 4, the number of groups applying for 501(c)(4) status rose from 1,500 in 2010 to 3,400 in 2012 - more than twice the number reported just two years earlier, prior to the Citizens United ruling. For those that don't know, 501(c)(4) status is the section of the federal tax code which governs nonprofit groups whom are dedicated to "social welfare." Given that definition, such groups are prohibited from being ...
