What has it been with the crazy comments I've been receiving on my blog entries recently? It's as if several far right-wing organizations passed memos around, saying, "So, like, do you know that crazy progressive Craig dude? I guess he's been in and out of the hospital lately, so now's the time to fill his blog with right-wing propaganda! Let's do this!" Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy has come under fire recently for a comment he made with regard to St. Louis Rams draft pick Michael Sam, whom came out as being gay prior to the draft. Dungy told the Tampa Tribune  that he wouldn't have drafted Sam, "not because I don't believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn't want to deal with all of it. It's not going to be totally smooth...things will happen." In response, most of the media has been rather critical of Dungy's comment(s). Michael Sam, himself, responded very well, and lightened the mood a bit with a joke when asked about Dungy's quote. I, for one, have mixed feelings on the matter. On Comedy Central's The Colbert Report  last night, Stephen Colbert interviewed conservative commentator and regular centerfold for Bow Tie magazine - George Will. During this discussion, the two engaged in the following back-and-forth: Colbert: "I'm a conservative, you're a conservative - I don't think anything should ever change." Will: "That makes you a liberal." Colbert: "That nothing should ever change? I didn't realize that. ... So why do liberals want things to stay the same?" Will: "Because whatever exists should continue. In 1935, Social Security - do you drive a 1935 car? ... Do you watch a 1935 television set? But Social Security, liberals believe should go on just as it always has." ESPN columnist Bill Simmons got into trouble for some critical tweets he made regarding the ESPN show First Take and its back-and-forth between the always-wrong commentator Skip Bayless and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. At one point in the back-and-forth, Sherman told Bayless, "I'm better at life than you." Simmons responded to the segment by tweeting the following messages: "It's amazing to me that people get so worked up about First Take. Who cares? Just don't watch it. There are like 800 TV channels." and "I am not defending this segment - youtu.be/j6x-O3kb1sI - I thought it was awful and embarrassing to everyone involved. I don't think ESPN soccer commentator Alexi Lalas is very in tune with satire and may not be the brightest crayon in the box overall. He made his third guest appearance on The Colbert Report last night, to defend the sport of soccer in the face of recent news that hundreds of games all over the world may have been fixed. Colbert preceded the interview by poking fun at the sport, its over-dramatic actors, I mean, players, and its seemingly constant adrenaline-pumping 1-0 matches. The interview went fairly well for approximately the first two minutes. However, in the final minute is where Lalas seemed to get irritated. He said, "I pity you (Colbert), because you don't understand the beautiful game of soccer..." He also had this to say - "It takes a superior intellect to understand the beauty of the game..." Then shortly after the show, I'm assuming the soccer commentator heard from someone that he shouldn't have taken Colbert too seriously, ...
