Donald Trump cannot be President again. The guy was a complete disaster in his first term, and rest assured, a second term would be 45 times worse. At the 2016 Democratic National Convention (DNC), then First Lady Michelle Obama passionately told supporters, "When they go low, we go high!" "They," in this case, are Republicans. While I'll be the first to admit it's not always easy to adhere to Ms. Obama's calling, there are times it does a grave disservice to our party and cause when we don't. The most recent such case is with regard to progressives focusing their time, with regard to the immigration debate, on insulting individuals like Melania, Vanessa, and Barron Trump. First Lady Melania Trump recently released a statement where she said she "hates to see children separated from their families." When visiting with the king and queen of Spain, she added she enjoyed "focusing on the ways we can positively impact children." After Khizr and Ghazala Khan's emotional speech in honor of their deceased son, Captain Humayun Khan, at the Democratic National Convention, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump would have been smart to just let things go. Of course, that's not his style, and he felt the need to respond, by saying the following: "If you look at his wife [Ghazala Khan], she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn't allowed to have anything to say. You tell me." and "I've made a lot of sacrifices. I work very, very hard. Slowly but surely, the post-convention polls are coming out, and to this point, the following conclusions can be made: 1) The DNC aided Hillary Clinton both in favorability and the general election and 2) The RNC may have had the opposite effect on Donald Trump. According to the polls, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton now has anywhere from a 5- to a 15-point lead on Republican nominee Donald Trump. Not only that, but Gallup released a first in polling on Monday. For the first time in 30 years, a convention resulted in less support from the public for a party's nominee than before the convention. With another day in this world, we have another misleading Facebook post being spread about by conservatives. What are these little rascals spreading about the online book that is our face? Donna Brazile, CNN contributor and Vice Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, posted the following on her twitter page on March 23rd of 2012: "2nd Anniversary of the Affordable Cart Act, ACA ('Obamacare' for critics)! #healthcareworks. In light of watching both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions and with the first Presidential debate being just a couple days away, I thought I'd attempt to combine the three events in a writing of mine, where the stark contrasts of the two conventions are presented by way of a debate. This is getting to be ridiculous. I take that back - it's been getting ridiculous for some time and there may not be a word in the English language fully appropriate for just how ridiculous things have gotten. At President Obama's Univision forum recently, he responded to a question with the following: "I think that I've learned some lessons over the last four years, and the most important lesson I've learned is that you can't change Washington from the inside. You can only change it from the outside. That's how I got elected, and that's how the big accomplishments like health care got done, was because we mobilized the American people to speak out." Now, I don't completely agree with the president, as I feel it's kind of silly to suggest you can't make a difference yourself and change Washington from the inside in addition to people on the outside working hard to bring about change in this nation's capital. Like with every speech at the two conventions over the past couple weeks, Bill Clinton's was subject to fact-checking. However, the Associated Press has received some criticism for one particular fact-check of the former president. In his speech last Wednesday night, Clinton said that a Romney pollster stated their campaign would not be "dictated by fact-checkers". He continued on by saying, "Now that is true. I couldn't have said it better myself -- I just hope you remember that every time you see the ad." The AP responded to this as follows: "Clinton, who famously finger-wagged a denial on national television about his sexual relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky and was subsequently impeached in the House on a perjury charge, has had his own uncomfortable moments over telling the truth. Having watched both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions over the past couple weeks and knowing most people aren't quite as big political nerds as myself, I thought I'd share the ten speeches which most caught my attention (excluding Clint Eastwood's conversation with an empty chair, of course): 10.
