GOP establishment: "We don't care about this country!"

While I'm anything but a fan of Fox News and feel Thursday night's GOP debate was anything but perfectly moderated, I do have to give moderators Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace kudos for some of their questioning. Not only did they provide visual evidence of candidates flip-flopping on particular issues and provide numbers to disprove candidates' math, but they ended the debate with the question of the night, asking all four candidates if they'd be supportive of the Republican nominee no matter who the candidate was, even if it happened to be Donald Trump. Ironically enough, with that question, the conservative-leaning Fox News network may have all but guaranteed a loss for the Republican Party in November if Donald Trump is the eventual nominee. For roughly 75% of their airtime, hopeful contenders Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio followed in Mitt Romney's footsteps and blasted Donald Trump, calling the businessman a "fraud," a "phony," a "bully,...

Schiano vs. Coughlin

Down 41-34 late in the game, head coach Greg Schiano instructed his defense to go after the ball when the New York Giants went into the victory formation. This led to Giants' quarterback Eli Manning going down (not injured) and head coach Tom Coughlin yelling biblical scriptures, I'm sure, into Schiano's face when the clock finally read all zeroes. I have mixed feelings about this, but while I can understand Coughlin's concern, I don't see anything wrong with what Schiano did. The game wasn't over. In baseball, if the New York Yankees were down 2-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays with two outs, nobody on and an 0-2 count to Derek Jeter, should he just hold the bat and allow the pitcher to toss strike three to end the inevitable loss for his team? Late in a basketball game, should a team trailing by a handful or less just allow the clock to run out without fouling its opponent? In hockey, should... ...ah, who c...

"One Night" (a poem I wrote recently)

One Night When I awaken, I look next to me, Uncertain of who you are, I begin to shudder, The surrounding room unrecognizable, Not cognizant of how I arrived, My memory lacking all the details, Not fully knowing what happened last night, Worries run rampant, As I try to sneak out, Hoping I used protection, Yet feeling much doubt, Out the door I walk, Hopeful it’s nothing but a thing of the past, Praying you don’t call, That I never bump into you again, In my car I travel, Uncertain of where I am, Receiving constant flashbacks, Promising myself it’ll never happen again, Right as I return home, I hop into the shower, Trying to cleanse myself of filth, Seemingly unable to scrub hard enough, I hit the bars the following night, Hungover yet again, Uncertain of who is next to me, Uncertain of who I am.
