Apparently, Americans suffer from Brokebackaphobia

According to a new poll, it seems that while Americans are straying away from homophobia, they're still Brokebackaphobics. In a recent HuffPost/YouGov poll, it showed that 60% of Americans would support their favorite sports team signing an openly gay player, while 20% would not. Also, 44% of Americans would strongly approve this, while only 11% would strongly disapprove. When it comes to party affiliation, 80% of Democrats would approve, 56% of Independents, and even 42% of Republicans. So, we're on the right track, right? Well, kind of... As most sports fans know, former Missouri standout Michael Sam got drafted by the St. Louis Rams this past weekend to become the first openly gay player to be drafted and potentially play in the NFL. When he was drafted, networks aired him kissing his boyfriend in celebration (a very quick, closed-mouth kiss on the lips). So, how tolerant are Americans of that? Not nearly as much. When asked if the kiss was appropriate or inappropriate...

The Philadelphia Eagles Draft Grade

It's unknown how well head coach Chip Kelly's offense will transfer from the college game to the NFL. However, I have to say I like what he and management have done with the team in the off-season as far as free agent acquisitions and draft picks go. The Eagles are one of the most highly graded teams as far as their draft picks went over the weekend. NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. gave the Eagles a B+ grade - a B for needs and an A for value. As far as the NFC East is concerned, Kiper graded the Eagles as the best in all three categories. The Giants, Cowboys, and Redskins all came away with C+ grades overall and anything from B to C- grades in terms of needs and value. The following players were drafted by Philadelphia over the weekend: Round 1, Pick 4: Lane Johnson (OT/Oklahoma) Round 2, Pick 35: Zach Ertz (TE/Stanford) Round 3, Pick 67: Bennie Logan (DT/LSU) Round 4, Pick 98: Matt Barkley (QB/USC) Round 5, Pick 136: Earl Wolff (S/North Carolina State) Round 7,...

Why the Philadelphia Eagles should not draft a quarterback with their first pick in the NFL draft (4th overall)

While I know some will disagree with me, I think it would be a mistake for the Philadelphia Eagles to draft a quarterback in the first round of the coming NFL draft. I think this for two reasons: 1) The team has far greater needs than that at the quarterback position and 2) There isn't a standout quarterback in this year's draft. The Eagles were pretty awful in all three phases of the game last year. I've seen mimes and deaf people click better than the Eagles offense did at times last year. The defense exerted less pressure on opposing quarterbacks than The Dude feels when smoking a doobie. The special teams coverage unit tackled much like a newborn going after a sumo wrestler. After former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly got signed by the team, the club made the following signings: Defensive end/linebacker Chris McCoy, quarterback Dennis Dixon, cornerback Bradley Fletcher, tight end James Casey, safety Patrick Chung, linebacker Jason Phillips, defensive lineman Isaac Sop...
