Almost every day someone asks me, "How could you let someone like Donald Trump get elected president? Was it as shocking for you as it was for me?" Honestly, no. Donald Trump is simply the product of years of lies promulgated by leaders of the conservative movement and the Republican Party, and for as much as I hate to say it, my Republican friends, you've been had! Liberals like myself are fairly notorious for innocuous language, so I think it's about time to take off the kid gloves and get real! While neither party is perfect (far from it) and both are controlled by big money, let's get something straight, the Republican Party is not the party of morality, God, the middle class, family values, or personal responsibility! In fact, if anything, it's become the antithesis of them! People change, and with that, parties change too, and the modern-day GOP is nothing like the Republican Party in the days of Lincoln, Eisenhower, or even Reagan. Let's look at...

Often times, I think of government as the parents of citizens. They're the ones looking out for us, trying to keep us safe, but at the end of the day, knowing full well they can only do so much, and at some point, they're going to have to let us make our own mistakes. In fact, they tend to be more sophisticated parents (well, so long as they're not members of the Tea Party). If a child does something the parent disapproves of and he or she says, "Stop that!" and the child responds with, "Why?" the parent will often times reply with, "Because I said so!" That's not the case for government officials. They'll pass laws, refer to studies and the like, to inform citizens of what they should and shouldn't do. Sure, some of these rules and laws may seem silly to most common-sense individuals. As was widely reported, during President Obama's recent healthcare reform speech, a woman standing behind him fainted. Not long afterward, right-wing conspiracy theorists began foaming at the mouth and chanting in unison, "It was staged!" Yeah, that's the latest in the 39-mile line of right-wing Obama conspiracy theories. There are several good reasons why I continually satirize the Republican Party more so than the Democratic Party (with exceptions like Anthony Weiner). As regular readers will know, I don't praise the Democratic Party a great deal, but do bash the Republican Party quite regularly. While the Democratic Party does bother me a great deal at times, it is also the more balanced of the two parties at this current juncture. I'd definitely consider myself to be more liberal than most Democrats in Congress, particularly the Senate, however, I'm cognizant of the fact most people in this country are moderate and in representing them, I'd like to see Congress reflect that more readily. Unfortunately, as is so often the case in the fall months, a devastating hurricane struck the U.S. just recently - this time along the northeastern part of the country by way of one Hurricane Sandy. What's also been common in light of these devastating hurricanes is at least one religious leader going off the deep end with comments explaining exactly why that particular hurricane took place. Preacher and sexiest man this side of nowhere - John McTernan - is just the latest such person to enlighten the masses with his infinite wisdom regarding natural disasters.
