Well, I say “we,” but not to be a Craiggy Downer, I didn’t do much celebrating. As a matter of fact, looking back, I can’t remember myself ever celebrating the true meaning of July 4 th .   As a kid, never did I sit back and reflect on all the freedoms I took for granted or how I was blessed with them. I just liked to blow shit up and see other people blow shit up. As a teenager, not once did I give thanks to all those before me who fought, and often times sacrificed their livelihoods, for my rights. "Ozark" was a good show, but... (Spoilers)

I finished season 4 of the critically-acclaimed series Ozark last night. Oddly enough, for as addicted as I was to the series, I couldn't wait for it to finish.  Ozark was the epitome of binge-worthy. It was fast-paced; had lots going on; there were twists aplenty; and just about every episode ended with a cliffhanger, which made it next to impossible to not feel the need to watch JUST one more before bed. Seriously, the show was like last-call at a bar. The bartender yells out, "Last call! Last call for alcohol!" You think to yourself, "Yeah, I probably shouldn't. It's not good for my health. I shouldn't drive. This really wouldn't be a good idea for anyone." With all of this deep introspection, what do you say? "Yeah, sure! Make that two drinks! Thanks!" That was Ozark . You'd already had a few drinks; were feeling pretty good; wanted the party to continue; and contrary to better judgment, decided to deprive yourself of at least ...

The (w)Hole (poem of mine)

This poem can be found on pages 151-153 of the book "Seasons Come, People Grow: A Poetic Journey". Emptiness I feel inside, A numbing sensation from head to toe, I thereby seek all around me, To find what can make me feel complete, secure and (w)hole, I can't find this through family, I can't find this through faith, I can't find this through friends, I can't find this through me, I need to be filled up, To regain all of these lost feelings, Whether it be through love or lust, Even if only for a few minutes, A temporary fill-up, I need more of this, So I don't go back to feeling numb, So that I may temporarily feel more complete, It was only temporary, It was only through lust, The numbness has overtaken me, To the point of me not feeling anything at all, Please, come and take me, Wherever you may be, Come and mend my broken heart, Make me whole and complete.

"The Show" (a poem I wrote)

This can be found on pages 79-81 of "Seasons Come, People Grow: A Poetic Journey". Look at me now, As I walk down, All eyes are on me, The center of attention, My long, shiny hair, Entrancing eyes, My sexy curves and figure, Beauteous smile, Look at me, Stand up and stare, Drool as I pose for you, My beauteous smile, sexy curves, long shiny hair, The cameras are flashing, All eyes are on me, A new star has been born, I am all that you see, As I walk off the stage, An emptiness begins to emerge, I feel naked and hollow, When out in the real world, Disengaged with deep conversation, Frustrated with academics, I can't look at myself in the mirror, Without feeling a lack of self-worth, Don't look at me now, As I sit and cry alone, My body on constant display, My potential and happiness have been sold.
