Twitter "fact" account claims the site helps to improve one's writing

I've long poked fun at Twitter, because I think the term "tweeting" sounds funny, even perverse in some instances, and because I feel that along with texting, tweeting has significantly contributed to the decline of our writing skills. Even though I still believe this to be the case, however, I decided to rejoin the site for business purposes - to help spread word about my written work. So, I've started "following" many different types of people to help keep me entertained and spread word about my work. Among these persons are a number of "fact"-oriented accounts which allege to post random facts throughout the course of a day. Upon reading these "facts," I'd say I question the validity of roughly one out of every two - which brings me to today's tweet. Misusing Words (there/their/they’re, your/you’re, then/than and to/too/two)

I’m a bit of a spelling and grammar geek. I’m not perfect in those two departments and realize many people aren’t as anal-retentive as I am when it comes to that, but I can’t help it sometimes. This is especially the case when people feel the need to constantly misuse the following words: There/their/they’re, your/you’re, then/than and to/too/two. I sometimes wonder if people know what they’re actually saying when they constantly misuse these very words. Often times, their statements don’t make a bit of sense. THEN you have the nerve TO tell me not one, but TWO times that my habits are worse THAN YOURS! THERE are always times TO get a little crazy! Remember the nuns we saw the other night? THEY’RE always out partying! If anyone can handle THEIR liquor, they can! So, please, stop snorting fun dip! Let’s start drin...

You Might Be An Idiot If…

No, I'm not Jeff Foxworthy. I'm not even a Jeff Foxworthy-wannabe. I'm not going to even list a bunch of funny lines like Foxworthy does about Rednecks. But a few recent e-mails (and past ones) that an old friend of mine sent have prompted me to write this. No, we're not friends anymore, which is why I'm more comfortable in writing this. For you adults and young adults out there, have you ever read or tried to the best of your abilities to read an e-mail by someone around your age that appeared to be typed by a 1st grader? It's painful, isn't it? I can hear the nails against the chalkboard right now just from thinking about it. First off, there's poor punctuation (if any at all). They may neglect to use periods and commas, so when you try to read the dang thing, you may have to re-read a sentence two or three times, because you find yourself reading quickly from one sentence to the next without much pause. This is when I mutter quietly to myself, ...
