Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, a Democrat, has, how do I put this? Dug himself into such a deep hole, he's calling for helicopters to pull him out of what he terms "The Second Grand Canyon." On Friday, it was reported that Northam was part of a racist photo printed in his yearbook. Why or how it took this long to dig up said photo is another matter entirely, but I digress. In this photograph, one man was wearing blackface and standing next to another individual decked out in a white hood and robe, disturbingly akin to the KKK's attire. At first, Northam apologized for being part of the photo. He contended that he was embarrassed, ashamed, and isn't the person today he was in 1984, when the picture was taken. On Saturday, he changed his story and said he wasn't sure if he was part of the photo. No, I'm not sure how a person could be uncertain about this either. The Republican Party may have reached a new low with the let's-talk-crazy-about-Obamacare rhetoric when North Carolina State Senator Bob Rucho tweeted the following message this past Sunday: "Justice Robert's pen & Obamacare has done more damage to the USA then the swords of the Nazis,Soviets & terrorists combined." After receiving criticism for his ridiculous tweet, Rucho responded by tweeting this: "Those that tweeted, put your thinking caps back on: 'The PEN is mightier than the SWORD.' Edward Bulwar-Lytton, 1830. But surely you knew that." I'm thinking Senator Rucho is void of anything resembling a thinking cap. Yes, according to him, it would make perfect sense to go up to a family member of a 9/11 victim and tell them, "Hey, the pen is mightier than the sword." Remember how, after the Newtown shooting, the NRA and many Congressional Republicans said schools and students would be safer if teachers and custodians armed themselves? Well, in light of Kansas passing such a law, it appears as if insurance companies aren't on the same page as the NRA and many Congressional Republicans. The Des Moines-based EMC Insurance Companies insure between 85 and 90% of all Kansas school districts, but have declared that they'll refuse to renew coverage for any school that follows through with the new state law. Mick Lovell, EMC's vice president for business development, said the following with regard to the decision: "We've been writing school business for almost 40 years, and one of the underwriting guidelines we follow for schools is that any on-site armed security should be provided by uniformed, qualified law enforcement officers. I just read a strange article regarding a study. Framingham Foot Study just released results from a study which showcased that high heels don't cause bunions. Here's how this information is played out in the article: "...Scientists have produced study after study proving what women already know: Heels hurt your feet. A lot. Specifically, shoes with heels strain your calf muscles, permanently shorten your tendons, damage your posture and twist your ankles. But we've got some consolation for all your heel devotees: High heels do NOT give you bunions!" The article closes by saying this: "...But of all the harm heels inflict on women's bodies -- hurting our muscles, throwing our posture out of whack, making us fall off a sidewalk or two -- they aren't to blame for those bunions..." Once again, as I predicted with regard to Mitt Romney's "47%" comments, he's found himself at an even steeper uphill climb than prior to the video's release. Two polls came out today to illustrate that - from Gallup and Reuters. In the Gallup poll, by nearly a two to one ratio, respondents stated they were now less likely to vote for Romney in the November election due to the video - 36% saying they were less likely, while 20% said they were more likely to vote for the Republican candidate. The ratio was even closer to two to one when it came to Independents - 29% saying they were less likely to vote for Romney and 15% saying they were more likely to vote for him.  The numbers were even more striking in the Reuters poll, where it showed that 43% of registered voters have a less favorable view of Mitt Romney following the video's release.
