The Irony of Trump's Obsession With the National Anthem

While our freedoms and the protection of them may be no laughing matter, Donald Trump's seeming obsession with that which symbolizes them cracks me up. Let's stand back and look at this entire situation. Donald Trump has consistently gone after NFL players for kneeling during the National Anthem. He's referred to them as unpatriotic (among other things) and suggested they should be fined, suspended, kicked out of the league, or even deported. He's claimed to have felt so strongly about this due to our brave men and women whom have fought and died to establish and maintain our freedoms, and the flag being a symbol of them. Trump has also referred to this country as the greatest and freest in the world. So, according to him, he's Mr. Patriotic. If the man is consistent with anything, though, it's his inconsistency. He campaigned on the slogan of "Make America Great Again," meaning he didn't think it was all too special prior to him stepping into of...

Tomi Lahren's Unintentional Irony

During an interview on Fox & Friends , conservative commentator and professional Barbie impersonator - Tomi Lahren - had this to say with regard to the NFL protests: "I would like to ask these players 'What exactly are you kneeling for and why have you chosen the flag and the anthem to do it?' I bet if we asked a hundred players, we would get a hundred different answers. And then further more, I would like to ask those same players, 'What would it take to get you to stand and respect the anthem?' And again you'd probably get a hundred different answers, if you'd get an answer at all." Tomi Lahren is probably right. There are likely multiple different reasons why these NFL players are either sitting or kneeling during the pre-game National Anthem. There probably isn't a universal reason why each and every one of these players feel prompted to protest. However, in saying that, Ms. Lahren is unintentionally admitting that these protesters are ...

What do Donald Trump, Mike Pence, Jerry Jones, Mike Ditka, and Roger Goodell all have in common?

They're all old, rich, white, and disapprove of black NFL players protesting oppression pre-game during the National Anthem. Also, their attempt to appear patriotic is nothing more than a charade. All they really care about is power and money. According to the U.S. flag code, these five men consistently disrespect the flag by using it in advertising, apparel, and presenting it in a flat and horizontal manner. They have absolutely no room to talk when it comes to patriotism. The flag may symbolize freedom, represent a free and great country to them, but their ancestors were never brought here from Africa as slaves. They never had to place their lives at risk in order to be provided the right to vote. They've never had to fear authority figures following and suspecting them of wrong doing due to the color of their skin. They've never felt the oppression blacks and other minorities have experienced throughout their lives. If they truly want everyone to find a reason to stand f...

The Red, White, and Clueless

Change is hard. Whether it be a new school, a new job, a new relationship, or a new kid, it's next to impossible to fully adjust and adapt to this major lifestyle change in an immediate fashion. This is especially the case as we age. However, more times than not, at the end of the day, we find a way to make the necessary changes and move forward with life, because for as much as we'd like it to at times, the world doesn't stop for the sake of our hardships. Life changes are inevitable, though, so while we may despise the mere sight of them whenever they arrive on the scene, we're cognizant of their seemingly constant presence, and go on to begrudgingly erase our old life formula, replace it with a new one, accept it, and move forward. While these life formulas may be written in pencil, however, after a certain point in time, beliefs are written in pen, and for as difficult as it may be to quickly adjust and adapt to major life changes, it seems to be doubly as difficult...
