It really made me laugh how so much of the media, especially Fox News, focused a great deal of their attention on Beyonce's lip-syncing the National Anthem at Barack Obama's inauguration. I can understand both sides of the argument. I can understand some being severely disappointed in discovering that Beyonce did in fact lip-sync the National Anthem. However, I can also understand her perspective, in wanting the performance to be perfect and not being able to accurately predict the weather and how it would effect her vocals. In the grand scheme of things, though, I don't see it as a huge deal. Quite a bit has transpired over the past few weeks of pretty significant importance. We've heard about new developments in/with regard to: Iran, North Korea, Syria, Guantanamo, healthcare reform, a jobs report, shootings, the Benghazi hearing, gun control legislation, etc. But no, let's focus our attention on whether or not Beyonce lip-synced. Over the past couple days, the Mitt Romney secret video has dominated the news-cycle. In a sad attempt to divert the media's attention elsewhere, the Romney team released a video clip of Barack Obama saying this in a speech he gave in 1998 (yes - 14 years ago): "The trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some redistribution because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure everybody's got a shot." Contrast this with what Mitt Romney said during his May fundraiser in Boca Raton: "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it.
