For as big of a fan of Stephen Colbert's comedy as I am, even I'll admit his new show had a few hiccups during its first week. However, the show seems to get better on each successive night, not only on the comedic front, but also the interview front. That trend certainly held true last night, especially when Colbert interviewed Texas Republican Senator and one of 492 GOP candidates running for president, Ted Cruz. One thing I've always enjoyed about Colbert's shows is how, unlike many cable news networks (sadly enough), he doesn't let his guests get away with BS. While CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC may have a tendency to not fact-check their guests on the spot (unless, in Fox News' and MSNBC's case, their opinion drastically differs from that of their guest), Stephen Colbert does, and it's quite refreshing. Yet another man has come forward in partially blaming a rape victim for that very crime. On Fox News' Shepard Smith Reports , attorney Joseph DiBenedetto made the following statement in light of news that a Missouri teenager had been raped by a classmate: "What did she expect to happen at one in the morning after sneaking out? I'm not saying - assuming that these facts are accurate and this did happen - I'm not saying she deserved to be raped, but knowing the facts as we do here including what the prosecutor has set forth, this case is going nowhere and it's going nowhere quick." To his credit, host Shepard Smith followed DiBenedetto's despicable remarks by saying this: "What you've done, Joseph, is taken tan alleged victim of rape and turned her into a liar and a crime committer. That's a far jump from a thousand miles away." I love how people like DiBenedetto believe that if X goes out past a certain time in a certain area and is ...

I love The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I watch the show, along with The Colbert Report , rather religiously. Stewart and Colbert are probably the two biggest influences on the satire I write. Even in saying that, however, there are times when I think Stewart has trouble treading the line between comedian and journalist, tries too hard to be balanced, and gets in these moods where he's angry at the world and decides to be, for lack of a better word, a dick to his guest. Last night's episode was a prime example of that. Stephen Colbert doesn't run into this problem often, because his show is viewed as a comedy. He's seen as a comedian and not as a journalist to some. His show and personality are satirizing The O'Reilly Factor  and host Bill O'Reilly. When Colbert comes across as a jerk to his guests, that's just him being in character. It was recently reported that Mitt Romney attended the boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez this past weekend. As claimed by Pacquiao publicist Fred Sternburg, Romney spoke with Pacquiao in his dressing room before the fight and told the fighter, "Hello Manny. I ran for president. I lost." Romney has never been one to appear very smooth with human interaction. However, this may be one of the most awkward-sounding lines he's ever publicly uttered. Is this how Romney is going to introduce himself from this point forward? "Hello X. I'm Mitt. I ran for president. I lost." How is another supposed to respond to such an introduction? "Hello Mitt.
