Fate/Destiny (in terms of love)...as the guys from Monday Night NFL Countdown would say - "Come on, man!"

I hate to sound like Mr. anti-romance or a skeptic of love, but after watching a romantic comedy last night and hearing this woman's story about how it was destiny that she ended up with a particular guy, I felt the need to write about it. She said something along the lines of, "He approached me and asked about a book I was reading and that's how it started. What if he had been late that day and we missed each other at the coffeshop? What if I wasn't reading that very book? What if he hadn't read that book? It was fate." Given Twitter and like sites where people like to believe that they are the center of the universe and even if they're just munching on a bagel while completely naked dancing in the living room to "Sunglasses at Night," they feel the world wants to know. We've become an extremely narcissistic society and I think this idea of romantic fate or destiny is a prime example of that. Perhaps it's partially due to Hollywood...

"A Hypnotic State" (a poem I wrote last night)

A Hypnotic State Kind and loving, Generous and nurturing, Hard-working and wise, Good with elders and children, Laid back and funny, Loyal and honest, Close to her family, Confident yet modest, Communicative and patient, As personable as one can get, Sweet and diligent, Can get along with anyone, Never takes for granted, Appreciates the little things, Doesn’t become complacent, Loves me for me, Beautiful to my eyes, Beautiful to my heart, Beautiful to my mind, “Beautiful” not doing her justice, Her eyes sparkle as they stare into mine, Pupils dilate, A warming of my heart, It was worth the wait, Uncertain if I’m dreaming, Or am wide awake, If she’s real or a figment of my imagination, As I remain in a hypnotic state.

What Will One Do For Love?

Sacrifice and compromise are two words that immediately come to mind when asking the question, what will one do for love? We all need to make sacrifices in order to make a relationship work. Whether it be to give up smoking, because the person whom one is with suffers from asthma or missing a critical episode of "CSI" one has been waiting to see all week, because their boyfriend or girlfriend has had a dreadful day and needs some company. Compromise is a key word when it comes to relationships, because if two people aren't willing to come to a middle area where they can both be somewhat satisfied, then it's going to create for many arguments and fights. If the gal is in the mood for a romance and the guy is in the mood for an action flick, perhaps they can come to a compromise on a comedy. If one wants to go out to eat on a nice spring afternoon and the other wants to head to a park for a walk, perhaps they can compromise and have a picnic. But how far will one ...

The Outsider's Realistic Perspective

Why is it that the majority of people can analyze a situation properly when they're on the outside looking in? But, those same people are blind as bats if they were put in the same situation? This is especially common when it comes to relationships. Ever hear about a friend's problem with someone they're dating? Or hear about their relationship story and fully be able to analyze what it is they're going through? Yet, when that same thing happens to you and your friend is there for you, you say, "Oh, but it's different." I've heard this I don't know how many times. It's because every relationship is, in fact, different on some levels, and yet, there are more similarities between them than we'd like to admit. We want to believe that ours is the exception to the rule. Ours is worth saving. Our boyfriend or girlfriend is different and better than the others we've heard about. If Bubba was caught cheating on his girlfriend, Clarissa, the...
