We'll stop talking about it when action is finally taken!

After the horrific mass shooting in Orlando, Florida over the weekend, I can't tell you how many times I heard the following statements: - "Let's not politicize this tragedy." - "It's too soon to talk about this." - "Let's hold a moment of silence and pray." - "Let's discuss at a later time." - "I'm so sick of talking about mass shootings and guns!" Well, guess what? We're all sick of having to discuss this subject on a seemingly weekly basis, but you know who's sickest of all? The victims' friends and family members. Time after time we go through this same cycle: 1) A mass shooting occurs 2) The GOP says we'll discuss gun violence at a later date 3) That discussion never takes place 4) Another mass shooting occurs We are in this continuous deadly cycle of ignoring gun violence. Every time we don't talk about this subject, we place more lives at risk. Thoughts and prayers...

America Needs To Wake Up!

I know that snapping my fingers won't get America's attention. Facts and logic don't seem to either. Police brutality apparently doesn't. Sadly enough, neither do mass shootings. When is America going to finally wake up from its seemingly permanent slumber and realize we have a problem? Sure, we can pretend that racism no longer exists, especially in light of the fact we elected and re-elected an African-American president. We can pretend that 99% of police brutality cases involving African-Americans were prompted by the eventual victims disobeying the officers' orders. We can pretend that people like Dylann Roof are simply messed up in the head, are aberrations, and there's nothing we could have done to have stopped them. We can also pretend that guns don't kill, that the more we have of them the safer we'll be, and that no law would be able to decrease the frequency of gun violence. But, I'm sorry, that's all complete and utter bullsh*t and i...

Bo Pelini is in need of some medicinal marijuana

Even though Nebraska's athletic director made a statement declaring head coach Bo Pelini as the team's coach this season and for seasons to come, I have a difficult time believing that. Chances are the AD was simply trying to maintain committed recruits and trying not to dissuade undecided ones. Following Pelini's embarrassing 38-17 loss to Iowa this past Saturday and his awful sideline antics which resulted in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that allowed Iowa to kick a field goal, I have a hard time believing he'll be around after the bowl game - especially if the Huskers lose and fall to 8-5 on the season. If Pelini is indeed fired at the end of the season, I have a feeling he will take a year off from coaching, fly to Nepal, find his center and happy-place, and come back to the States to become a yoga instructor, with a hit workout, entitled, Calming the F**k Down!

Obama's sagging poll numbers (credit angry liberals over the NSA controversy)

Well, I'm not sure if there's much point in my writing this blog anymore, but I'll do so anyway. A few days ago, I noticed President Obama's poll numbers were sagging some. I found this to be especially interesting because the economy has been continually improving under his leadership - so for his approval numbers to move in the opposite direction, I found this to be intriguing and somewhat perplexing. In an August 3rd - 5th Fox News poll, it had President Obama at 42% approval and 52% disapproval (net -10). Identical numbers were displayed in an August 9th - 13th Reuters/Ipsos poll. An August 10th - 12th Economist/YouGov poll showed the president at a -9 net approval (44% approval versus 53% disapproval). My hunch about all this was that a growing number of liberal Democrats and Independents were angry at the president for the NSA controversy, and this played a significant factor in his dropping poll numbers. However, I felt so long as the economy continued to imp...

So, this is what an angry personal ad sounds like...

I just read an article by one Melanie Curtin entitled "Ten Things to Avoid When Hitting On Me," which I found to be, I'll say "interesting." When first glancing at the article, I immediately thought to myself, "Is this young woman publishing a strange personal ad of some kind here?" I'm curious how many responses she gets from males whom tell her, "Ooh, pick me! Pick me! Give me a chance! I don't do any of these ten things!" What are these ten things? 10. Don't neg.: "In other words, it works on women who suffer from low self-esteem. This means that in fact, negging is manipulative, underhanded, and in some cases downright mean. I, on the other hand, will not respond well to you insulting my outfit, hair or drink of choice. Not only is it annoying, it makes it screamingly obvious that you are trying to run game on me... which is really not going to work." Yeah, speaking of annoying - the word "negging" ...

Radio show host Bob Davis "apologizes" for his angry Newtown rant

So, it appears as if radio show host Bob Davis - co-host of Davis & Emmer - has apologized for his angry rant at the expense of the Sandy Hook victims in Newtown, Connecticut. Let me first play back what sparked the controversy. Not long ago, Davis said the following on his radio show: "And here's the other thing that drives me crazy. They trot out the victims. And I have something I want to say to the victims of Newtown, or any other shooting. I don't care if it's here in Minneapolis or anyplace else. Just because a bad thing happened to you doesn't mean that you get to put a king in charge of my life. I'm sorry that you suffered a tragedy, but you know what? Deal with it, and don't force me to lose my liberty, which is a greater tragedy than your loss. I'm sick and tired of seeing these victims trotted out, given rides on Air Force One, hauled into the Senate well, and everyone is just afraid -- they're terrified of these victims." H...

Hank Williams Jr. Hates Intelligence

Country singer Hank Williams Jr. was known for a long time as the guy who asked the nation, "Are you ready for some football?" preceding Monday night football games. However, in the past year or so, he's become more well known for his anti-Obama rants. The reason ESPN pulled his song off the air for the Monday night games was because of a comparison he made between Obama and Hitler on Fox and Friends . Not long ago in Iowa, Williams went off on the president toward the end of his set. Well, Hank Williams Jr. is at it again. At the Stockyard Music Festival Sunday in Dallas, Texas, Williams said the following: "We've got a Muslim for a President who hates cowboys, hates cowgirls, hates fishing, hates farming, loves gays, and we hate him!" Let's run down the list of claims: Muslim? No, Obama is not a Muslim. This has been debunked several times. (0 for 1) Hates cowboys? I'm not sure where Mr. Williams got this, but never has the president said...

"Middle School" (a poem I wrote recently)

Middle School As of the first day, Cliques are formed, The bullies and jocks, Geeks and band nerds, Slammed into the lockers, Fearing the halls, Forced to do the bullies’ homework, Getting pushed against a wall, The teasing is constant, Hatred and enemies result, The principal wanting to stay out of the way, Fearful, having been bullied in the past, When their faces aren’t buried in the books, They become hesitant, Indecisive, Irrelevant, Unable to make up their minds, Which way is north and which way is south, Speechless when around girls, In social situations feeling nothing but doubt, The bullies roam the halls, Their heads held high, Knowing they’re above the law, For them, there are no rules or guidelines, They spread rumors, With no basis in fact, Pointing their fingers and laughing, Ready to go on the attack, Lining up militarily, In cohesion with one another, As the nerds scatter about, Not standing by each other, The bullies approach r...

An(n)ti-Coulter

Outspoken conservative columnist and author, Ann Coulter, has written many "tributes" for liberals, so I thought I'd return the favor that she so deserves. The problem with writing this "tribute" is, where does one begin? Well, let me start by proving how much Coulter loves "liberals." Let's check the titles of her books: "Treason (Liberal Treachery From the Cold War to the War on Terrorism)," "Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right, How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must)," and "Godless: The Church of Liberalism." Yeah, she sure has paid her respects to liberals. Coulter went to an Ivy League school and was a lawyer, so she is book smart. If she continued on with her legal career, then she may very well know exactly what she's doing and be very successful. But, there are other types of intelligences. Even though she's written best-selling books and while she may know the ins and outs of the legal sy...
