The GOP's gotten themselves in quite the pickle, haven't they? They started the primary season featuring 17 candidates, and even though "outsiders" like Donald Trump and Ben Carson polled well early, party leaders figured an "establishment" Republican would win out in the end. As time progressed, however, it became increasingly apparent that wasn't likely, and before they knew it, the GOP looked at their options and saw only Ted Cruz and Donald Trump left. Cruz and Trump are liked by the GOP establishment about as much as potholes are liked by smart cars. Many in the GOP have now been forced to go with, as they see it, the better of two evils, and have begrudgingly endorsed Cruz over Trump. In knowing it'll be extremely difficult for either to defeat likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the November election, however, multiple GOP leaders have discussed ways to overlook the primaries and nominate someone else at the convention this summer. While I'm anything but a fan of Fox News and feel Thursday night's GOP debate was anything but perfectly moderated, I do have to give moderators Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace kudos for some of their questioning. Not only did they provide visual evidence of candidates flip-flopping on particular issues and provide numbers to disprove candidates' math, but they ended the debate with the question of the night, asking all four candidates if they'd be supportive of the Republican nominee no matter who the candidate was, even if it happened to be Donald Trump. Ironically enough, with that question, the conservative-leaning Fox News network may have all but guaranteed a loss for the Republican Party in November if Donald Trump is the eventual nominee. As I predicted in wake of hearing Mitt Romney's premature, ridiculous and false comments regarding President Obama sympathizing with the attackers in Egypt and Libya based on a statement made by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, of which the president had no part, hours prior to the attacks.  In a Pew Research Center Poll, which was just released, it showed that 45% of the American public approve of how President Obama is handling the situation in the Middle East, while 36% disapprove - a net of +9. Mitt Romney, meanwhile, did not see such positive numbers regarding his reaction to the attacks. With regard to the comments he made, 26% approve and 48% disapprove - a net of -22. At this point in time, President Obama has a net +31 with regard to his Middle East reaction compared to Sir Romney's. Sadly for Mittens, the only group with which he scored better than the president were Republicans, who gave him a 58-11% edge. That was the only such group, however. Men and women approve...

Word came forth today, which confirmed earlier rumors that Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, required his running-mate shortlisters to provide him with a full 10 years of their tax returns. As many know, he's come forward by saying he'll only release a maximum of two years worth of his tax returns. This included the person who eventually won the job - Paul Ryan. After Romney selected Ryan as his vice presidential candidate, the two men were interviewed together and Ryan declared that like Romney, he too would release two years of his tax returns. While this appeared to be a smart and sensible decision to most unaware of the rumors regarding how Romney vetted his potential running mates, it may wind up backfiring on the Republican ticket before the election rolls around. I really don't understand political strategies sometimes. I didn't understand John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate for the 2008 Presidential Election. I honestly don't really understand Mitt Romney's choice of Paul Ryan as his running mate. Now it appears as if a group of ex-special operations and C.I.A. officers have released a video criticizing the president of his Bin Laden raid. I guess this group believes that the president allowed for certain leaks regarding the mission in order to improve his political standing with the public, placing this country in harm's way. True or not, what this group is doing is making the country relive one of Obama's high points in office - the killing of Osama bin Laden. I'm trying to be politically correct here, but I think this move by the Opsec group is "mentally handicapped".
