Following the debacles that were the previous couple of elections for Republicans with regard to women voters and issues, one would think they'd have learned by now, but apparently that's not the case. Remember these lovely comments? Todd Akin: "It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors, that's really rare. If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down. But let's assume that maybe that didn't work or something: I think there should be some punishment, but the punishment ought to be of the rapist, and not attacking the child." Richard Mourdock: "I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that's something God intended to happen." Republican Georgia Representative Phil Gingrey is thinking about making a Senate run, so you know what that means? It's time to backtrack on some words which could hurt him at the polls if he does indeed decide to run for the Senate. Remember Todd Akin? The guy who ran for a Missouri Senate seat, but lost largely due to his "legitimate rape" comments? What is it about these idiot males either currently in or running for a position of power and believing they're experts on women's bodies and rape - more so than even the women themselves? We had the likes of Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, and other Republicans making absurd statements about rape. Now it's California judge Derek Johnson's turn. It has just been reported that in 2008, Judge Johnson said the following during a case involving one Metin Gurel being charged with rape: "I'm not a gynecologist, but I can tell you something. If someone doesn't want to have sexual intercourse, the body shuts down. The body will not permit that to happen unless a lot of damage is inflicted, and we heard nothing about that in this case. That tells me that the victim in this case, although she wasn't necessarily willing, she didn't put up a fight." It was such a shame to see Republican Senatorial candidates Todd Akin of Missouri and Richard Mourdock of Indiana get upset in the election last night. Todd Akin's the one who talked about "legitimate rape" and that women, through their magical vaginas, could ward off rapists' sperm if they so chose, to prevent any need for an abortion. Mourdock said that if a woman got pregnant via rape, it was "something God intended." Well, upon seeing the election results, it appears as if Claire McCaskill "legitimately raped" Mr. Akin. As for Mr. Mourdock's loss, it was "something God intended."

I shouldn't be surprised by this anymore, but another Republican either already in or currently running for Congress has made an outrageous claim about rape. Earlier this year, Missouri Republican Senatorial candidate Todd Akin said that women can't get pregnant from what he termed "legitimate rape," because their vaginas had a magical power about them, which could block the passageway of the rapist's sperm and prevent pregnancy. A couple months ago, Akin let the world know of a scientific breakthrough - that when women are raped, their vaginas possess magical powers to ward off any sperm which could potentially impregnate them. Missouri Republican Senatorial candidate - Todd Akin - most well known for his "legitimate rape" comments, appears to have had a long-running history of making outlandish statements regarding abortion. On the House floor in 2008, he said the following: "It is no big surprise that we fight the terrorists because they are fundamentally un-American, and yet we have terrorists in our own culture called abortionists. This is kind of old news by now, but the fact of the matter is, the stupidity of the comments made me speechless. I know - hard to believe, right? When Missouri Republican Senatorial candidate, Todd Akin, made his thoughts known on abortion, he became a household name and that wasn't a good thing for him. That old saying that any publicity is good publicity was proven to be inaccurate by Mr. Akin. Missouri Republican Senate candidate, Todd Akin, recently made headlines with his recent claim that women have magical vaginas, which push aside any sperm from a raper to prevent pregnancy. Here I thought I didn't understand women. Now it's North Dakota Republican congressman (and Senate candidate) Rick Berg making the headlines. It's now been documented that Mr. Berg cast a vote which would have criminalized mothers whom decide to have an abortion with a Class AA felony. In this bill, incest and/or rape were of no matter.
