GOP Strategy: After uttering crazy remarks, blame the media for reporting them!

On his weekly talk radio program, former Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce recently made some pretty wild remarks which forced him to resign as Arizona Republican Party's first vice chair this past Sunday. The main remark which landed him in hot water was this: "You put me in charge of Medicaid, the first thing I'd do is get [female recipients] Norplant, birth-control implants, or tubal ligations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs and alcohol, and if you want to [reproduce] or use drugs or alcohol, then get a job." You heard it here first - a male Republican believes in birth-control! ...well, among some other things... Pearce then tried to defend his comments by telling the Washington Post  the following: "[The comments were] written by someone else. [I] failed to attribute them to the author. This was a mistake. This mistake has been taken by the media and the left and used to hurt our Republican candidates." Let's attempt to tra...

New NRA Slogan Ideas

If there's one word most people associate with the NRA, it's "classy." How could we not? A little over a week ago, a 9-year-old girl in Arizona accidentally shot and killed a gun range instructor whom was attempting to show her how to shoot an Uzi. Not even two days after that tragedy unfolded, NRA Women tweeted the following message: "'7 Ways Children Can Have Fun at the Shooting Range' via @TeamWON. READ: womensoutdoornews.com/2014/08/7-ways..." In light of the tragedy and the NRA's response to it, I thought I'd help the organization think of some catchy new slogans. You're welcome, NRA... - "Guns don't kill people; little girls with Uzis kill people!" - "Guns make us safer! Unless you get shot by one!" - "It's not the gun; it's the 9-year-old girl holding the gun!" - "More unloaded guns, less crime!" - "The only way you stop a little girl with a gun is an instructor sho...

Arizona State Senator Steve Yarbrough makes a ridiculous SB 1062 comparison

Fortunately, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer vetoed SB 1062 yesterday, which would have permitted Arizona professionals license to refuse service to homosexuals on religious grounds. However, the veto didn't occur before some Arizona Republicans decided to engage in what I like to call crazy-talk. With regard to the bill, Arizona State Senator Steve Yarbrough had the following to say to Randi Kaye of CNN: "The hypothetical that I think is the most useful is: let's assume that we have three gentlemen who are devout Jewish fellows who form a corporation and go in the catering business. And they're doing that and then I come to them and I say, 'I'd like for you to cater my event, but I would like for you to provide pork products.' And they say, 'Well, I'm sorry. Our sincerely held religious beliefs prevent us from doing that.' And my response is, 'Well then I sue you, and I get damages against you." If that was the most "useful" ...

Conservatives react to Brewer's veto via Twitter

After Arizona Governor Jan Brewer (Republican) vetoed SB 1062, which would have made it legal for professionals in the state to refuse service or employment to homosexuals on religious grounds, she's been on the receiving end of some lovely tweets from fellow conservatives, such as the following: "CNN led full court media press to take away rights of Christians. Just the beginning. Using tolerance as weapon against us. Wake up." - John Nolte Using tolerance as a weapon against Christians? Whom supposedly believe in and worship Jesus, who, rumor has it, was extremely tolerant, and preached love? Who should wake up again? ::points toward Nolte:: "Not sure what the GOP stands for when it stands against religious freedom out of pure fear of political correctness." - Ben Shapiro For at least one day of the year, the GOP stands for tolerance, so, congratulations! Oh, wait... That's not a good thing? Well, like I said - it was one day... Mr. Shapiro and hi...

Philadelphia Eagles Update

The Philadelphia Eagles enjoyed a week off this past weekend. With all the upsets that have occurred in recent weeks, perhaps this was a double blessing, as it also allowed some injured players another week to heal. Speaking of which, it sounds as if Michael Vick will be close to 100% again, but due to how efficiently Nick Foles has run the offense of late, he'll start in this coming weekend's game against Arizona. With the Dallas Cowboys' nail-biting 24-21 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday, Dallas is again atop the NFC East with a 6-5 record and a tie-breaking win over the Eagles earlier in the season. Dallas will face 4-7 Oakland at home on Thanksgiving, which should move them to 7-5. Philadelphia, meanwhile, will have to take on the 7-4 Arizona Cardinals, whom are coming off four consecutive wins - outscoring their opponents 121-62 in that span. Their only four losses this year have come against teams with a combined 31-13 record (St. Louis, New Orleans, San F...

Homophobic group wants to see a "real man" as school board member of Sunnyside

Flyers are being spread about Tucson, Arizona by a group that wants to recall openly gay Sunnyside District School Board Member Daniel Hernandez, Jr. Along with a picture of Hernandez, the flyer says this: "Put a REAL  Man on the Sunnyside Board (picture) Daniel Hernandez is LGBT We need someone who will support Sports and cares about our kids. We don't need someone who hates our values RECALL Daniel Hernandez TODAY" Yes, because all gay men hate sports and don't care about kids, especially those whom are school board members. Also, to hate sports is to not care about kids apparently. I think this group may be confused on what LGBT stands for. It would have made sense to have stated that Hernandez is gay or that he is LGBT-friendly, but it's impossible for anyone to be LGBT. Daniel Hernandez may be a lot of things to a lot of people, but he's not a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. The headline of the flyer I found to be both hilario...

Another Republican Congressman talks about rape

First there was Todd Akin. Then there was Richard Mourdock. Now we have Arizona Representative Trent Franks taking it upon himself to discuss the matter of rape. Franks proposed a measure which would ban abortions after 20 weeks during pregnancies. This measure is currently being considered by the House Judiciary Committee. In response, Democrats have proposed an amendment to the bill which would make exceptions for rape and incest. Here's what Mr. Franks had to say about this proposed amendment: "Before, when my friends on the left side of the aisle here tried to make rape and incest the subject - because, you know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low. But when you make that exception, there's usually a requirement to report the rape within 48 hours. And in this case that's impossible because this is in the sixth month of gestation. And that's what completely negates and vitiates the purpose for such an amendment." Right, becau...

Obama voters not allowed at Arizona gun store

I really had to laugh upon reading an article this morning. Shortly after the election last week, one Cope Reynolds - owner of the gun store Southwest Shooting Authority in Pinetop, Arizona - posted the following message no his site, in a newspaper ad, and on a sign at the front of the store: "To Whom it May Concern: I thought you all might be interested in this. We will try to demonstrate once again that the bottom line for our business is principle, not money. Yes, it has been damaging at times but our values are intact. Effective immediately, if you voted for Obama, your money is no good here. You have proven beyond a doubt that you are not responsible enough to own a firearm. We have just put a sign up on the front door to save you the trouble of walking all the way in here... I took this ad out in our local paper. It will come out in the White Mountain Independent tomorrow, 9 November Sincerely, Cope Reynolds" First off, how in the world is this Cope Rey...
