The Kind-Hearted Smart Aleck

Christopher Stanlane - a 34-year old resident of Fairmont, North Carolina - accidentally shot and killed his 10-year old son while cleaning his shotgun on Sunday afternoon. The father was said to be cleaning his shotgun while on the couch and his son was in front of him watching television when the gun went off and struck the boy in his head, which killed him instantly. With the investigation ongoing, no charges have been filed to this point. I have so many questions for the father upon reading this story. First off, why in the world would he not check to make sure his gun wasn't loaded before cleaning it? Next, why wouldn't he make sure to point the gun away from anyone, regardless of whether or not it was loaded? Lastly, why would he not go about this in a different room than where his 10-year old son resided? In a very tragic report, one Joseph V. Loughrey accidentally shot and killed his 7-year old son Craig Allen Loughrey at a gun store over the weekend when his 9 mm handgun discharged as he was getting into his truck. In light of this, I have to wonder what the NRA's response would be to this tragedy. Just the previous weekend when former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Javon Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend before doing the same to himself, the NRA spoke out saying if Belcher's girlfriend had a gun, she wouldn't have died that day. They went on to basically say, as they so often do it seems, that if everyone had a gun, we'd all be safer. What about with regard to this most recent tragedy at a gun store in western Pennsylvania? Should the 7-year old boy have been armed? If he had a gun, would he still be alive today as well? But that's different, right? As most every person knows by now, including babies whom have yet to be born as well as chimpanzees, Mitt Romney was quoted in a Boca Raton May fundraiser as saying, "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right - there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that, that they are victims, who believe that government has the responsibility to care for them. Who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing." Now it's his running mate - Paul Ryan's turn, who said the following at a keynote address at The American Spectator's  2011 Robert L Bartley Gala Dinner: "Seventy percent of Americans want the American dream.
