Late Show host Stephen Colbert has recently come under fire from right-wingers due to some comments he made on Monday's show. As a result, #FireColbert trended on Twitter for a few hours last night. What were the comments Colbert uttered which triggered many Trumpsters? Well, after the CBS late-night show host aired a clip of Donald Trump refusing to answer a question posed by John Dickerson and asking him to leave, while Colbert said Dickerson was an extremely upright individual, he was not, and proceeded to say the following directed toward the president: "Sir, you attract more skinheads than free Rogaine. You have more people marching against you than cancer. You talk like a sign language gorilla that got hit in the head. No, no such department exists, and no, DEP couldn't stand for Department of Environmental even if there were such a thing. Just a couple nights ago, GOP front-runner Donald Trump was the lead guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert . Fairly or unfairly, perhaps due to the previous night's interview with Texas Senator Ted Cruz as well as Colbert's seemingly constant array of jokes at the expense of Mr. Trump, a great deal of hype surrounded this interview. When all was said and done, it seems most liberal media outlets were disappointed with Colbert and felt that Trump got the better of him, whatever that means. Having been a long-time viewer of both The Daily Show and The Colbert Report , it was incredibly tough seeing Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert leave their respective shows this past year. Larry Wilmore's The Nightly Show  has improved in recent weeks, but it still lacks the biting satire and goofy charm of The Colbert Report , and it's unknown at this time just how well Trevor Noah will be able to fill in for Jon Stewart on The Daily Show . Fortunately, Stephen Colbert returned last night as host of CBS' The Late Show , taking over the reins from David Letterman. Supposedly the show lasted two hours and had to be condensed to slightly over an hour, so there were some bumps and bruises along the way, but that's to be expected in a show's debut. So, did you hear? Satirist Stephen Colbert - host of the Comedy Central show The Colbert Report - got heavily criticized by the media over the weekend due to a tweet he didn't post. I know - crazy, right? What happened was on Thursday night, someone involved with the show, tweeted the following message: "I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever." Whomever posted the tweet left the message void of any context, so understandably, some in the Asian community got offended. When conservative talking heads saw this, they jumped on the bandwagon, and before we knew it, #CancelColbert was trending on Twitter. However, if one were to view the before-mentioned punchline surrounded by the proper context, it seems painfully clear that Stephen Colbert and his writers weren't attempting to offend anyone in the Asian community. I just wanted to send my thoughts out to late-night talk show host and satirist Stephen Colbert and his family after learning about his (their) mother passing away recently at the age of 92. He, along with Jon Stewart, George Carlin, and several others, have all been major influences in my writing through the years, and I hold a great amount of respect for each of them. So, again, my thoughts go out to him and his family. I hope being with one another through this difficult time and also the comedy show help in the healing process. I don't think ESPN soccer commentator Alexi Lalas is very in tune with satire and may not be the brightest crayon in the box overall. He made his third guest appearance on The Colbert Report last night, to defend the sport of soccer in the face of recent news that hundreds of games all over the world may have been fixed. Colbert preceded the interview by poking fun at the sport, its over-dramatic actors, I mean, players, and its seemingly constant adrenaline-pumping 1-0 matches. The interview went fairly well for approximately the first two minutes. However, in the final minute is where Lalas seemed to get irritated. He said, "I pity you (Colbert), because you don't understand the beautiful game of soccer..." He also had this to say - "It takes a superior intellect to understand the beauty of the game..."
