Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen is drawing some heat for a recent article of his, entitled, "Ferguson and Benghazi's Troubling Parallels." Cohen starts his piece with, "Ferguson has become the liberal Benghazi. It is more of a cause than a place, more of an ideological statement than an incident..." Another "interesting" quote from Cohen's article is when he said this: "...Let me offer another conclusion: If (Michael) Brown was not criminally shot because he was black, then possibly the cop was accused because he was white. Want to know why the Republican Party has had so many problems during the past couple presidential elections? Their candidates are moving further and further to the right (either by their own volition or being forced in that direction), while this country is seemingly moving further and further to the left. Both John McCain and Mitt Romney were viewed as moderate Republicans heading into primary season, but were forced to appear further to the right on the political spectrum than they actually were to become the party's presidential nominee. This resulted in flip-flopping, and with that, trust issues when election season was officially underway. This played a factor in their eventually losing the elections. If they had run as the moderates they had always been viewed as before the primaries, they would have likely had much greater chances of appealing to a wider array of voters - independents, in particular. Nebraska head football coach Bo Pelini has never been known as a smooth-talker and has not been very coy about screaming obscenities while on the sidelines during games. Even with this almost drunken sailor-esque reputation, however, Pelini's recently reported tirade surprised me, and in light of it and the team's defensive woes, I think I'd be equally as surprised to see him last past this season as the Huskers' head coach. Over the past week, polls have shown that President Obama's approval ratings have yet to be hampered by the recent controversies surrounding the administration. A right-leaning columnist responded to this by saying, "Just wait a couple months, and his numbers won't be nearly as high as they are today." The thing about it is the economy has been improving under President Obama, and an increasing number of people are beginning to both see and feel that for themselves. It's one thing to simply hear politicians state, "Things are looking up," and quite another to actually see and feel these improvements for yourself. As long as things are looking up as far as the economy is concerned, chances are the president's approval rating won't drop too significantly. ESPN columnist Bill Simmons got into trouble for some critical tweets he made regarding the ESPN show First Take and its back-and-forth between the always-wrong commentator Skip Bayless and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. At one point in the back-and-forth, Sherman told Bayless, "I'm better at life than you." Simmons responded to the segment by tweeting the following messages: "It's amazing to me that people get so worked up about First Take. Who cares? Just don't watch it. There are like 800 TV channels." and "I am not defending this segment - youtu.be/j6x-O3kb1sI - I thought it was awful and embarrassing to everyone involved.
