I don't normally get personal with my writings, but as my first child was born 6.5 weeks ago and Father's Day was celebrated last Sunday, I thought I'd provide just a few random comments on what I've learned to this point. Breastfeeding in public may be uncomfortable, but is essential The debate has grown on the morality of breastfeeding in public in recent years. Well, 6.5 weeks in, I can tell you there really is nothing to debate. While watching mothers breastfeed their babies in public might be uncomfortable to some of us outsiders, it's essential. What are mothers supposed to do, just stay at home all day every day? What are babies supposed to do? Refrain from exhibiting any signs of hunger while outside of the home? Yeah, good luck with that! Trust me, while seeing women publicly breastfeed may not be comfortable for you, it's far less uncomfortable than the alternative option - a baby constantly crying harder than a man losing a bet on Super Bowl Sunday...

Lately, especially after the rodeo clown incident in Missouri, I've been seeing many Facebook posts from conservative friends of mine whom have claimed, "When people made fun of Bush, it was hilarious. When people make fun of Obama, it's racist." This is a very sticky situation, one we've never dealt with before as a country, since this is our first African-American president. While there have been times when perhaps self-described liberals have been a bit too sensitive with regard to Obama jokes - construing them as racist, there have also been countless more examples of racist jokes at the expense of this president than all the others combined. It's one thing to poke fun at presidents as far as their quotes are concerned, policies, gaffes, etc., and quite another to poke fun at them via racial stereotypes. In last weekend's game against the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback, Michael Vick, became the all-time leading rusher amongst NFL quarterbacks, surpassing Randall Cunningham's mark of 4,928 yards with 4,946 (and plenty more to come, I'm sure). Looking back at Vick's career to this point, the guy has been hampered by injuries, but statistically speaking, it's pretty impressive what he's been able to accomplish with all those injuries and the jail sentence. In 84 career starts, Vick has amassed 15,945 passing yards and 101 touchdowns, to go along with 4,948 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns for a total of 20,893 yards and 133 touchdowns.
