I was struck when I saw a headline for an article at the Independent  which read, "Liam Neeson: 'I walked the streets with a cosh hoping I'd be approached by a 'black bastard' so that I could kill him'." Yes, the headline grabbed my attention so I decided to read the article in its entirety. Unfortunately, it seems not everyone did that. In an interview with Clémence Michallon, Neeson told the story of a friend confessing to him that she had been raped by a black man. Upon hearing the news, the action star claims he thought this: "I went up and down areas with a cosh, hoping I'd be approached by somebody. I'm ashamed to say that, and I did it for maybe a week - hoping some 'black bastard' would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him." Actor Bryan Cranston plays a quadriplegic in the new film The Upside  and some are not happy about it, claiming that it's wrong for an "able-bodied" (I hate that term) actor to play the part over a disabled one. While I can empathize with disabled actors and feel they should receive more opportunities than they do, I feel the critiques leveled toward Cranston are misguided. It may sound overly simplistic, but actors act. That's what they do. Those who receive the most acclaim are the actors who can master starkly different characters in an array of genres. Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Daniel Day-Lewis are all prime examples of this. Actors who consistently attempt to expand their horizons by going out of their comfort zones for parts tend to be the most widely respected. Those who are typecast for a single character or part, while they may be successful at the box office, they're often parodied by comics and shut out at awards ceremonies. What will impress audie...

As I mentioned previously, I've had a bit of fun over the past few days on Twitter, especially with regard to the hashtags #NewGOPDebateQuestions and #GOPDebateDemands. A pair of liberal-leaning websites even mentioned a couple of my tweets in articles they wrote regarding the hashtag #NewGOPDebateQuestions. Well, to my surprise, those weren't the only two sites to mention my tweets. Late last night, I discovered the far right-leaning site,  IJ Review , did as well. I've been troubled by a couple of recent  Huff Post columns I read regarding celebrities, homosexuality, and privacy. Not long ago, actor Tom Hardy, star of the soon-to-be-released film,  Legend ,   was offended when being asked about his sexual orientation by a journalist. In response,  Huff Post blogger Noah Michelson wrote a piece defending the journalist, saying, "There is nothing offensive about asking a public figure about his or her sexual orientation." After Michelson received a great deal of criticism for his post, fellow Huff Post contributor, Michelangelo Signorile, defended his colleague, Noah Michelson, ending his article regarding the matter with the following paragraph: "It's not the media's job to cover up for public figures. And it's certainly not the media's job to send the mixed message to young people that, though they can now get married in any state if they're gay, heterosexuality is glamorous and exciting -- and report...

I rarely spend any time researching celebrities' personal lives or opinions. It's not like I watch an Alfred Hitchcock-directed film because I agreed with his stance on capital punishment or I listen to a new Green Day album because I read somewhere that the band enjoys Indian food as much as I do. I just simply try to appreciate celebrities for their talents and not look much deeper than that. Occasionally there are times, however, where a celebrity makes a statement so outrageous, I feel the need to make note of it while I try to not roll my eyes so far back I need to be taken to Linda Blair's doctor to situate them properly again. Actor Vince Vaughn provided such a moment for me today, and yes, my eyes are fine. Russia is on quite the flaming hot streak when it comes to its anti-gay rhetoric and behavior. Russian priest and actor Ivan Okhlobystin continued this lovely trend when he made the following comments during a "spiritual talk" this past Sunday: "I would have them all stuffed alive inside an oven. This is Sodom and Gomorrah, as a believer, I can not remain indifferent to this, it is a living danger to my children! I don't want my children thinking that being a faggot is normal. This is gay fascism! If a man can not choose an appropriate person of the opposite sex for reproduction -- that is a clear sign of mental abnormality, then he needs to be deprived of that right to choose." I hate to chuckle at violence of any kind, but couldn't help myself with the following story. Supposedly Oscar-nominated actor Edward Norton got annoyed with a member of the paparazzi (go figure, right?) and well, I'll let Shawn Lealos of The Examiner tell you: "According to the NYPD, the member of the paparazzi was attempting to shoot video of Norton on Tuesday with his camera phone when the actor aggressively pushed the man's hand away, smacking the phone away as well. The person then went to get medical treatment, complaining that his hand was in pain after the Norton attack." Yes, one of the two lead stars in the film Fight Club "attacked" a man by pushing his hand and phone away from him leading to the life-altering injury known as hand pain.
