Face-palm quotes brought to you by Tony Dungy and Mike Huckabee

I read two quotes today which I felt the need to share and rebut. They come courtesy of former NFL head coach and current NFL analyst Tony Dungy, and former Arkansas governor and current douchebag Mike Huckabee. I'll start with Dungy's comment, as he made his thoughts known on why Pro Bowl quarterback Colin Kaepernick has yet to get signed by an NFL team: "Without that national anthem [protest], someone would have signed him by now. If you're seen as a distraction off the field, for whatever reason, you better have a lot of talent going for you. People will overlook it. They always sign talent if they think he's going to upgrade your team. Michael Vick went through a lot of that and had some teams say no [to signing him]. Andy Reid was the one coach who said, 'Hey, we'll do it. We think enough of him as a player, and we know we're going to take some criticism.' With Joe Mixon, you had the same thing. That's what happens." Really? Dung...

Kudos to Phil Simms for taking a stand on the Washington controversy

I, for one, would like to tip my cap to CBS NFL analyst Phil Simms, who, on Monday, said that during Week 4's game between the New York Giants and Washington, he likely won't use the term "Redskins" during the game. When speaking to the Associated Press  about matters, Simms said, "My very first thought is it will be Washington the whole game." He added: "I never really thought about it, and then it came up (the Week 4 game) and it made me think about it. There are a lot of things that can come up in a broadcast, and I am sensitive to this." To his credit, NBC NFL analyst Tony Dungy later said that, "I will personally try not to use Redskins and refer to them as Washington. Personal opinion for me, not the network." Last year, NBC's Bob Costas had a halftime segment regarding the team's nickname. Part of that segment went as follows: "Think for a moment about the term 'Redskins,' and how it truly differs fro...

Tony Dungy's Distraction-Gate

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy has come under fire recently for a comment he made with regard to St. Louis Rams draft pick Michael Sam, whom came out as being gay prior to the draft. Dungy told the Tampa Tribune  that he wouldn't have drafted Sam, "not because I don't believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn't want to deal with all of it. It's not going to be totally smooth...things will happen." In response, most of the media has been rather critical of Dungy's comment(s). Michael Sam, himself, responded very well, and lightened the mood a bit with a joke when asked about Dungy's quote. I, for one, have mixed feelings on the matter. Tony Dungy has a right to his own opinion, just like we all do. The problem here isn't that, however. The problem is that Dungy makes it sound like players whom attract a lot of media attention, for whatever reason, aren't worth the trouble. They c...
