Karma may exist, but not in this lifetime

One concept I wish I fully believed in is karma. Karma basically suggests that, in the end, we get what we deserve. It's probably the biggest reason why I hope there's an afterlife and it exists there, because no matter how much I wish the contrary, it certainly doesn't exist in this lifetime. I hear it at least once a day: "Karma is a b*tch" or "Karma will get you" or simply just "Karma." Sure, there may times when we hear or read stories about an awful person receiving what seems to be justice, and perhaps in an unusual, almost ironic way, but what percentage of the times does this actually happen? My guess is less than 5%, and that's probably an overestimation. What about the reverse? How often do good people ultimately get rewarded for their kind deeds? Much less than I'd like to see. Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the name Donald Trump. Here's a guy who's spent his 70+ years in this world: Sexually hara...

Does karma exist?

I've been hearing a lot about "karma" recently. It's usually been used in the following manner - "Karma came back to bite him" or "Karma is a b**ch. Just wait and he'll get what he deserves." Now, I refer to myself as agnostic. While I don't believe there's enough evidence to state there is a higher power we call God, I also don't believe there's enough evidence to deny this being's possible existence either. As for karma, though, I think I have an even harder time believing it than the existence of a higher power. First off, let's look at the definition of the term: "karma [kahr-muh] noun 1. action, seen as bringing oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this life or in a reincarnation. 2. the cosmic principle according to which each person is rewarded or punished in one incarnation according to that person's deeds in the previous incarnation. 3. fate; destiny. 4. the good or bad ema...

Dating dilemma for nice guys...

I've written about this before, but it's been on my mind quite a bit recently and I would like to sort out my thoughts on the matter. On Friday night, I posted a status on Facebook which read, "Craig Rozniecki has got this always-a-friend-never-a-boyfriend thing down to a science. He may have to start teaching classes on it." I received a response from a guy which said something like, "You've got to kind of be a dickhead. Sadly, it works." I talked to a distant cousin of mine, an older lady, about this and the aspect of a "challenge" and she said that sadly, yes, young people in particular seem to be attracted to that. Looking at the past two women I pursued and two whom kind of pursued me, they all have something in common - they have a history of dating, for lack of a better word, dickheads. They've admitted this. When they haven't and have described to me the men they were dating, how they treated and spoke to them, I could d...

"The Invisible Man" (a poem I wrote recently)

The Invisible Man To thou whom I speak, To thou whom I pray, To thou whom I listen, Every minute of every day, When I rise in the morning, Go to sleep at night, I know you’re wit me, My guiding light, I look to you for answers, Look to you for love, To look after my children, Look after myself, With me when I drive to work, When I return home, With me at every waking moment, With me until I’m gone, One day I will rise to be with you, See my family and friends, Be rewarded for my everlasting faith, Be forever saved, I’ve never seen your face, Nor heard your voice, Yet I adamantly declare, To know of your presence, I don’t believe in ghosts, Yet hold no doubts of your existence, Having never seen either, Absent of any evidence, The invisible man is coming, Believe in him or else, He will strike ye down to the fiery pit, A ghost sending you to hell.

"Inner Conflict of the Unknown" (a poem I wrote last night)

Inner Conflict of the Unknown As I look up, I’m unable to see his presence, Nowhere to be seen near or far, Being physically absent, I cannot hear his voice, Even in the still of the night, As the crickets chirp, I listen for a sign, Children being abused, Families in poverty, Wars being waged, How could he let this be? His benevolence can be questioned, Omniscience too, Omnipotence appears unlikely, Yet I wish it were true, An angel looking down upon me, Making certain I’m alright, There to reward me after I pass, Welcoming me into the next life, Yet doubt lingers over me, As I walk the streets at night, People lying in them passed out, Having given up on this life, Unable to prove he exists, Unable to prove he’s absent, Doubting with all my mind, Hoping with all my heart.
