The Fantasy Football Curse of a Season Is Almost Over...Finally...

Having the 14th pick of a 14-team league, dominated by quarterback stats, I felt pretty good going into the season having drafted Indianapolis Colts' starter Peyton Manning and Houston Texans' starter Matt Schaub. I knew that Manning would miss some games, but the early prognosis was that he'd miss 2-3 and that's all. It then became known he'd likely miss the season, so I picked up Jason Campbell, the starting quarterback of the Oakland Raiders. He then went down with a season-ending injury and I picked up his replacement, Carson Palmer. Schaub then went down with a season-ending injury, so I wound up picking the Kansas City Chiefs new starter (Matt Cassel went down with a season-ending injury also) Tyler Palko. After he struggled and former Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton was waived, the Chiefs picked him up. I then decided to release Palko in favor of Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Hainie, who was replacing Jay Cutler whom was also said to have suffered a p...

Cursed in Fantasy Football

This will be short and I know that no one cares, outside of a friend of mine and I, but eh, whatever. So, I'm in a 14-person fantasy football league. Yes, the draft was...fun...or something. I think with my final pick, I drafted Joe Montana. Also, out of 14 teams, I had the final draft pick of the 1st round and the first pick in the 2nd. The league's points were geared toward the quarterback, especially ones whom completed a lot of passes. This is why, even though he was expected to miss a couple games at season's start, I decided to draft Peyton Manning. The benefits in the long-run definitely outweighed the hindrances in the short-term. With my second pick, I drafted Matt Schaub and thought I'd be pretty well set as of Week 3 or 4 at the quarterback position. Well, word soon spread in the next 2-3 weeks that Manning wasn't improving any and may wind up needing surgery and to miss the rest of the season. Yeah, that happened. I picked up Oakland Raiders' quart...

Bad Luck in Fantasy Sports

Okay, so this is stupid to complain about, right? Fantasy sports? Who cares? I agree. But, I'm done with my work for today (well, most of it), am bored, in need of a break and I just got word from a buddy of mine about the football team we drafted yesterday and just feel like venting for a moment. Alright, so, the only reason I play fantasy sports is because an old buddy of mine in Omaha loves it and it's a way he and I can stay in touch with one another. So, from that standpoint, it's nice. It always gives us something to talk about and reason to write or call each other. Both of us have had pretty good success with baseball. We used to team up, but now have separate teams. We've in two of the same leagues. I'm in 1st place in both leagues and he's in 3rd and 5th, respectively (out of 8 and 12 teams). One league we call the "normal" league, because it's a pretty straight-forward fantasy baseball league. The people don't get cheap, don'...
