In what is being hailed as the most comprehensive study on the topic, Michael Siegel, Craig S. Ross, and Charles King III concluded the following when they looked at the relationship between gun ownership and firearm homicide rates in the U.S. from the years of 1981 to 2010: "We observed a robust correlation between higher levels of gun ownership and higher firearm homicide rates. Although we could not determine causation, we found that states with higher rates of gun ownership had disproportionately large numbers of deaths from firearm-related homicides."
