As I mentioned in a recent blog, I've been having a field day with trending hashtags on Twitter of late. Over the past 48-72 hours, I've posted a combined 90 tweets with one of the following hashtags: #Bad1stDateOmens, #FakeCampingFacts, #WhitePrivilegeMeans, #ConservativeBecause, and #GOPPlatform. After a couple of #ConservativeBecause tweets I made, I received this response from a Trump supporter: "For every one of these posts you make, I'm gonna donate $10 to Trump and the NY Tea Party. Your move." Really? This guy apparently doesn't know me very well. I've gone as high as 100 tweets on a trending hashtag before. Also, what are the specifics? Is it $10 a piece to Trump and the NY Tea Party per tweet or $10 total? What about retweets? Whatever the case, I decided to call the Trumpeteer's bluff. Omaha Police Officer Bryan Kulhanek has been placed on paid administrative leave by the Omaha Police Department for, as Omaha World-Herald staff writer Nancy Gaarder put it, a "'potentially inappropriate' Facebook post." I'm sorry, but there was nothing "potentially" inappropriate about the post; it was inappropriate, plain and simple. Here's how the condensed version of it read: "Here's the Cliffs Notes version of my very lengthy post. I'm getting a little tired of the us-vs.-them rhetoric we hear so often nowadays, especially with regard to law enforcement and the Black Lives Matter movement. The two aren't mutually exclusive. It's perfectly rational to be both pro-cop and pro-Black Lives Matter.  First off, no matter who we want to pin the blame on, I think many have misunderstood the intent of Black Lives Matter (BLM). BLM activists aren't saying only black lives matter; they're simply saying black lives matter too. Many black-Americans feel like their voices have been ignored and like their lives mean less than those in other demographics (perhaps 3/5 of a person), to the point where they've decided to stand up and say, "Hey, our lives matter too!" So for those who like to counter chants of "Black Lives Matter!" with "All Lives Matter!" while that's technically true, it illustrates your lack of understanding for the BLM movement. Do you want to hear a funny joke which wasn't intended on being a joke in the first place? Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, take it away... "I think he [Donald Trump] is trying to campaign as a racial healer. I think that has been part of his message, if you watch what he said this week, he talked about how devastating it was for Dallas, how we need to respect our law enforcement, to pray for those who are killed and those who are injured." To my surprise, a recent tweet of mine reached 1.7K likes and 1.6K retweets. The tweet was: "Benghazi: 4 die GOP: 'Let's research this for 4 straight years.' Gun violence: 400,000+ die since 9/11 GOP: This needs no research.'" In addition to the 1,700 likes and 1,600 retweets were plenty of comments from trolls. One such troll may want to author the book, How Not to Debate . He started by saying, "I know you and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, and this is again the case," before posting 2016 death totals void of a source. When I asked for the source, he provided me with it, but in the end, that may have been a mistake, for the source was deemed to not have been at all credible. These numbers came from a far-right "pro-life" group, whose objective it was to paint abortion as the worst of all problems in this country, and due to that, Planned Parenthood in a bad light as well.
