Boyfriend Application (for the ladies, not for me)

Boyfriend Application Name: (Note: Nothing against people from the South, but if your first name includes a hyphen and the name Bob following the hyphen, you will not be eligible.) Age: (As long as you’re of legal age and not dead, you will not be disqualified.) Job: (If you don’t have a job, you won’t be getting any “jobs” from me, if you know what I mean. If you don’t know what I mean, I have to wonder if you’re going to be the lead star of a sequel to “The 40-Year Old Virgin”.) Loyalty: (If Tiger Woods is more loyal than you, you will not be allowed within 100 yards of me and I highly recommend you get tested and remain abstinent for the rest of your days.) Intelligence: (The chances of you being smarter than me are very slim, so I’d say approximately 99% of men are eligible here.) Amiability: (If you’re meaner than Dick Cheney, I think we could probably make things work, but if you’re nicer than Mister Rogers, you’ll have to sing your songs and play with your trai...

"A Hypnotic State" (a poem I wrote last night)

A Hypnotic State Kind and loving, Generous and nurturing, Hard-working and wise, Good with elders and children, Laid back and funny, Loyal and honest, Close to her family, Confident yet modest, Communicative and patient, As personable as one can get, Sweet and diligent, Can get along with anyone, Never takes for granted, Appreciates the little things, Doesn’t become complacent, Loves me for me, Beautiful to my eyes, Beautiful to my heart, Beautiful to my mind, “Beautiful” not doing her justice, Her eyes sparkle as they stare into mine, Pupils dilate, A warming of my heart, It was worth the wait, Uncertain if I’m dreaming, Or am wide awake, If she’s real or a figment of my imagination, As I remain in a hypnotic state.

"A Hollywood Fantasy" (a poem I wrote last night)

A Hollywood Fantasy The two lock eyes, Smiles are exchanged, The opening scene foreshadowing the inevitable, The couple’s fate, The two bump into one another, At a random place, Coincidence not being possible, It’s simply fate, Apologies and numbers are shared, A first date soon to come, Everything seemingly perfect, As the couple fall in love, Drama then unfolds, Trust is nearly broken, Secrets that went untold, The two separate for reflection, Magic then fills the air, Snow falls to the ground, The two suddenly appear, With Sinatra in the background, They again lock eyes, Move ever closer to one another, Their lips meet with a passion, As they live happily ever after, A Hollywood fantasy, How I wish it were true, Instead I’m stuck in reality, Not knowing what to do.

A Comment On My Poem, "Oblivious to the Obvious" via WritersCafe.org

Well, that was fast. I just wrote the thing last night. The individual stated the following: "Oh My There is such truth in this. Others should read this write. There is alot in this to realize. Some people will never see. Nice write....xo" The poem, "Oblivious to the Obvious" reads as follows: What I could normally see, I can see no more, Blind to what stares me in the face, My vision suddenly blurred, Others hand me aids, To help me see more clearly, Clouded in too much thought, Fearful of my feelings, My literacy like that of a newborn, Unable to see what’s in front of me, Analyzing every last detail, To learn how to read, Mixed signals come my way, As optimism and pessimism collide, Hope that history does not repeat itself, Yet doubts enter my mind, Is there reason for hope? Or am I grasping at straws? Wanting to believe something that’s not, Living in denial, Glasses are of no aid, Neither are non-convoluted signs, With the truth staring me in the face, O...

Further Spreading Word About My Books and Receiving A Comment On My Poem, "Puppets"

The social networking sites I've joined have thus far been a disappointment to me. I'm receiving plenty of views, but the sites have been typically dominated by teenagers, people whom live outside of the United States and/or the sites don't have much activity from its members. So, I decided to look into joining some different writing communities. I just finished creating my profile and posting some works of mine at the following site: http://www.writerscafe.org/TheRoz81 I've already received one review of my poem, "Puppets". The reviewer said: "What a wonderful image this calls forth. 'Our heads and arms dangling'. Freedom from our strings and the people who pull them, such a powerful message. I really enjoyed your poem." The poem in its entirety is as follows: Puppets Held by the strings, Never in place, Our head and arms dangling, At their mercy, Guided on the stage, Directed where to go, How to act, What to wear, W...

"The Game" (a poem I wrote last night)

“The Game” I know the rules, But refuse to abide, Many others do, And seem happier than I, A game of chess, Awaiting the next move, Looking the opponent in the eyes, And knowing what they’re about to do, A game of poker, A serious look across one’s face, Maintaining a sense of mystery, Not wanting to give anything away, A game of football, Taking advantage of the other’s weaknesses, Plotting this for sixty minutes, Until they finally give in, Honesty’s not a top priority, Openness is frowned upon, Kindness is optional, Generosity non-existent, A game of love, Of toying with the heart, With an excitement, anxiety and bewilderment, It pounds and pounds, Winless to this point, But refusing to give in, As it’s only a matter of time, Before that streak comes to an end.

My New Author's Spotlight Site

The site where all my books are currently available has upgraded and to go along with a few customizations I made, it looks pretty nifty (for lack of a better word) if I do say so myself (and I do). It can be viewed at the following URL: http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/thetaoofroz

Facebook Officially Sucks Right Now

I'm no longer a member of MySpace, as I got a little tired of the spam and being phished (as were many of my friends). I gave Twitter two tries, but don't see much point in reading about what people had to eat for lunch, what they're wearing or that they're bored at 2 o'clock in the morning and have been unafraid to bash that rather regularly. That brings me to Facebook. The site is far from perfect. There are some slight annoyances I've had here and there, either with the site itself or people on the site. Since last night, though, for whatever reason, the site has run slower than me after drinking a gallon of rubbing alcohol (aka everclear). I did read about a hacker group set out to destroy the social networking site in November, so perhaps the site is running very slowly in light of this news, as new security measures are being set. There have also been some new features that have been added, so it's also possible that there's some kind of gliche a...

"The Nice Guy Curse" (a poem I wrote last night)

"The Nice Guy Curse" Lacking the mystery, Lacking the adventure, Lacking the risk, Lacking the danger, No challenge is present, No project on which to work, Rarely any drama to be had, It must be too good to be true, To take care of you when sick, Bring you flowers on a rainy day, Have dinner ready by the time you get home, Write you poems to express what I want to say, To clean the house with no qualms, Run errands without mention, Make sure the toilet seat's down, Take care of the kids, pets, laundry and dishes, Open and honest, Loyal to the core, Someone to hold and comfort you, To love you ever more, But I lack the mystery, Lack the adventure, Lack the risk, Lack the danger, A best friend, A counselor, A comedian, But not a lover, Someone who makes you happy, Who makes you smile, Who makes you laugh, But not enough to be mine, I sit here and wonder, Why this never works, Why must I alter who I am? Because of the nice guy cu...

Blood Before Principle (poem I just wrote)

I wrote this just now in dedication to a friend of mine who has been disowned by his parents, his father in particular, due to the fact he's gay. "Blood Before Principle" Born into this world, A different kind of guy, An uphill struggle from the start, Not accepted by the majority, Not wanting to admit to this world, What makes me different, Dating as many girls as I can, To try and change myself, Not wanting to admit to myself, What is inevitably true, I deny myself of reality, Hoping to please you, The moment finally comes, When I can deny no more, Out to you I reach, For acceptance and love, You turn away at my admission, Tell me to never step inside the house again, As I walk away homeless, Forever shunned by my family, In denial again, Hoping I can change myself, Pills and drinks consumed in abundance, Wanting love and acceptance, I wake up, Nothing's changed, I reach for the bottle, To erase the pain, Please take me back an...

Disowning Children Based on Sexual Orientation

So, I talked to an old buddy of mine on the phone last week. He came out of the closet to his closest friends about 10 years ago and we were all fine with it. None of us were surprised. In fact, when he came out to me, I didn't even realize at first he had just come out, because rightly or wrongly, I kind of assumed it. When he came out to his parents, unfortunately, they weren't as accepting. His mother seemed disappointed, but could live with it. His father was a different beast entirely and wanted nothing to do with him. So, my friend, I'll call him Bill, was disowned by his own parents. Ever since that point, he's battled problems with alcohol and drugs, has moved around a bunch and has come back home wanting his parents' acceptance. They'd take him back for a short while, thinking they could "cure" him of this obvious illness and when that didn't happen, they'd kick him out again. Just last week, Bill told me he had recently spoken t...

Abusers Are The Weakest of the Weak

I was informed just last night that a dear old friend of mine was abused by her then-boyfriend. This wasn't the first such occasion for this. Unfortunately, she accepted his apology after the first time he resorted to violence against her. I sincerely hope with all my being that she doesn't open the door for him again. Unfortunately, I myself, have been a victim of abuse, when I was an 8-year old boy, an older man took advantage of me. I've known other people whom have been victims of one kind of abuse or another, whether it be physical, sexual, verbal, emotional, mental or psychological. No matter what I think of the person or how disgraceful I believe his or her actions are, I try to place myself inside their shoes (not literally, of course) and attempt to garner a better understanding of why they think and act as they do. The same holds true for abusers. Having been a victim of it myself, which has had its effects, even 22 years after the fact, this is difficult for ...

"The Touch of Love, The Touch of Hate" (a poem I wrote last night)

Upon discovering a dear friend of mine had been beaten by her long-time boyfriend, I felt the need to write and came up with this: "The Touch of Love, The Touch of Hate" Your gentle touch, Warm embrace, Along my neck, my back, My arms, my face, Filled with warmth, My heart feels complete, Filled with love, Like you're a part of me, Giddy in your presence, At the sound of your voice, My smile seemingly permanent, With every touch, The sun then sets, The doors creak, As I hear footsteps, A fear instilled in me, As the stomps become louder, My fear begins to grow, The room darkens, Turns bitterly cold, My eyes close tightly, Hoping it's nothing but a dream, Before you stand before me, In my face you scream, I feel your hand across my face, Your fist at my jaw, Time and time again, Before I finally fall, Tears stream down my face, Wanting the nightmare to end, My cheeks puff up, blood fills my nose, My heart and body in agonizing ...

A Comment On My Poem, "One Voice," via Wattpad

Via the new social-networking site I joined, Wattpad, I've posted some excerpts from two of my books, Seasons Come, People Grow and The Kind-Hearted Smartass. I received a comment on one of my poems ("One Voice") today and it is as follows: “I read all the three poems you posted but especially liked “One Voice”. You have beautifully portrayed the helplessness and agony of the person behind the voice and the apathy of the world as a flowing poetry. It actually compels the reader to sit back and retrospect. I applaud your talent!” "One Voice" A whisper in the distance, From a far off place, Unknown is the source, Unknown is the time and place, A voice in the distance, Unable to make it out, Only a few others notice, The rest go on and walk off, Screaming with all his might, Unable to get the words out, Feeling that all is hopeless, Feeling that all is lost, I scream for the world to hear me, But only one voice am I, Caught in a crowd of bill...

The Philadelphia Eagles/Miami Heat Comparison Is Laughable

Wow, so the Philadelphia Eagles are like the Miami Heat of the NFL now, eh? I can't tell you how many times I've heard or read this comparison being made. I just heard it on SportsCenter this morning via Jeremy Schaap. For those not very cognizant about these two teams and why the comparison is being made, let me fill you in on the matter. This past year, the Miami Heat signed LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, three perennial all-stars and arguably two of the best five players in the NBA (James and Wade). James was the most sought after free agent and made his decision known on a nationally-televised interview on ESPN. The majority of people didn't care for these moves, especially of James' circus stunt on ESPN. Due to all of this, the Miami Heat became the most hated team in basketball this year. If you were even a casual fan and not living in Miami, chances are you pulled for the Heat to lose on a regular basis. In the NBA Finals, it's not as if the Da...

Spreading Word (about my books) Via Social Networking

I've been busy attempting to join as many social networking-type sites as possible and getting set up on all of them. I now have profiles and writings created and posted on the following 9 sites (including this one): Lulu http://stores.lulu.com/thetaoofroz Facebook http://www.facebook.com/note.php?created&&note_id=10150737714245537#!/profile.php?id=870935206 Blogspot http://thekind-heartedsmartaleck.blogspot.com/ Google https://profiles.google.com/u/0/115280867379095449947?edit=sa&tab=mr#115280867379095449947/about/edit/d Folkdirect http://www.folkdirect.com/home/TheRoz81 Kiwibox http://www.kiwibox.com/#/TheRoz81 Lafango http://lafango.com/theroz81 Tumblr http://www.tumblr.com/tumblelog/rozzy81 Wattpad http://www.wattpad.com/user/TheRoz81

I hate filing complaints against waiters, but...

I really hate filing complaints against waiters. They hardly get paid anything and rely on tips to make any kind of money. I filed a complaint one time against a bartender, because I was told by a buddy of mine that well drinks were half off, so when the bartender charged me $5, I simply said, "I thought wells were half off tonight." He replied and I quote, "Do you have a vagina?" Not believing what I had just heard, I said, "What?" He repeated himself, "Do you have a vagina?" Keep in mind, I didn't know this guy and it was my first time at this particular bar. So, I filed a complaint and was rewarded very nicely in an attempt to persuade me to give the bar another chance. I did one time to make use of the certificates, but felt no need to go back after that. I thought it was a very nice gesture, but still didn't convince me to go there much. I believe that's the only time I've filed a complaint and I'd have to say i...

Post-Surgery Update

I forgot to post about this. I saw my surgeon on Wednesday morning to check up on me post-gallbladder surgery and he said I'm ahead of schedule and so long as there isn't any awkward pain that's felt, I can get back to working out again. Yes! I have really missed that. I haven't gained too much weight or anything, but feel just kind of, for lack of a better word, blah. So, things are going pretty well again on the health front for a change. A friend of my mother's recently said with regard to me, "He can't catch a break, can he?" I really hope she didn't mean that in the literal sense, because I wouldn't much care for an arm or leg breaking while skipping along the street backwards with my eyes closed. Yes, I do that regularly, especially after I return from the bars on either Friday or Saturday night/morning.
