Brett Favre Talks About Aaron Rodgers

As has been well chronicled in the past week, former Green Bay Packers' quarterback, Brett Favre, had some interesting things to say about current Packers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers. When he spoke on Atlanta's 790 The Zone last Tuesday (October 4th), he made the following comments:

"I'm going to be honest, I was not surprised. The biggest surprise to me would be that he didn't do it sooner." (referring to Rodgers winning a Super Bowl)

"He's (Rodgers) very bright and he got a chance to watch and see successful teams do it right. And so he just kind of fell into a good situation. On top of that, he's a good player. I don't think there's any pressure on him now, the talent around him is even better than when I was there."

"Aaron had a chance...even though the last couple years it's seemed like he's almost a rookie, he's been around a while. And I'd like to think that he watched, he learned, and then when he got a chance to play, he brought in his ability -- which is obviously very good or they wouldn't have drafted him in the first round."

"I'm really kind of surprised it took him so long. In the early part of last season, it hadn't quite clicked yet, and I didn't know it would. I just kind of figured when they hit their stride, they're going to be hard to beat. And that's what happened."

Surprised he didn't do it sooner? Got to see how good teams did it right? Fell into a good situation? No pressure on him? Talent around him is better? Seemed like he was almost a rookie even though he'd been around a while? Surprised it took him so long? It hadn't clicked and he didn't know if it would? Yeah, Favre seems to be interested in one thing - protecting his legacy.

Let it be known that Favre didn't win a Super Bowl until his 5th year as a starting quarterback. That's excellent, but Rodgers won it in just his 3rd year as a starter.

In his first three years as a starting quarterback for the Packers, Favre led the team to a record of 26-19. He completed 62.4% of his passes for 10,412 yards, 70 touchdowns and 51 interceptions for a quarterback rating of 83.0.

In Rodgers' first three years starting for the club, he's led the team to a 27-20 record (1 game better than Favre), completed 64.6% of his passes (2.2% better than Favre) for 12,394 yards (1,982 yards better than Favre), 86 touchdowns passes (16 more than Favre), 31 interceptions (20 fewer than Favre) and a quarterback rating of 99.4 (16.4 better than Favre).

Rodgers still has a long ways to go to equal Favre's career numbers, but at this point in his career, he's a notch above Favre. With one more Super Bowl ring, he'll be a step ahead there as well.

Boycotting jukeboxes because of TouchTunes

I love music and enjoy hitting the bar(s) over the weekend, so naturally, when the mood strikes me, I've never been coy about playing some songs on the jukebox. This past Thursday, a friend of mine turned 50, so several friends of her's, including myself, all met up to celebrate the occasion. At around 9:30, a friend of mine and I both chipped in $5 to play some songs on the jukebox. Four hours and 231 skips later, we gave up on hearing the songs we had selected, and went home knowing we had just wasted $5. This wasn't the first time such a thing had happened to me (and many others), and due to that, I'll be boycotting jukeboxes. Why? The scam known as TouchTunes. You see, here's how the plot typically breaks down. A person (or group of people) downloads the TouchTunes app on his/her phone, consumes one too many adult beverages, and due to this, has less care for spending extra money to hear the songs of their choosing right NOW. That's the thing with TouchTun...

Face guarding is legal in college football and the NFL

I just wanted to remind fans and announcers especially, that face guarding is legal in both college football and the NFL. It all comes down to contact. So long as a defender doesn't make contact with an intended receiver, he doesn't have to turn around to play the ball. I can't tell you how many times every week I hear announcers talk about face guarding being a penalty. It's not. I even heard one announcer yesterday state, "If the defender doesn't turn around and play the ball, the ref will call pass interference every time." That's simply not true. Courtesy of referee Bill LeMonnier, he says this with regard to the rule at the college level (answered on 8/12/13): "NCAA rules on pass interference require the face guarding to have contact to be a foul. No contact, no foul by NCAA rules." In the NFL rule book, this is written:  "Actions that constitute defensive pass interference include but are not limited to: (a) Contact by a ...

A closer look at the Scramble With Friends power-ups

I am unashamed to admit that I'm a nerd. My idea of a good time is playing a word game like Boggle or Scrabble. Thankfully, I (and many others) can play such games via Facebook and/or my (our) cell phone(s). While it seems that cheating has become more commonplace in these games (Words With Friends in particular) than San Diego has had nice weather, I've yet to give in to that craze. One element present with the game Scramble With Friends (Boggle) not present in Words With Friends (Scrabble) are legal boosts called "power-ups," which cost a number of tokens from the 15 available. I've now tried all five power-ups, including the latest one which costs money. So, in case anyone's curious about playing the game or giving these power-ups a gander, here's a rundown of them all: Freeze - I think this is probably my favorite of all the power-ups. With the freeze, time stands still for a matter of seconds, which allows you more time to find words and improve...
