It appears as if George Zimmerman is in trouble yet again. He was arrested yesterday afternoon and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, battery-domestic violence, and criminal mischief, for allegedly pointing his shotgun at his girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, and threatening her after she told him to get out of the house, gathered his belongings, and threatened to call the police. In September, Zimmerman was accused by his wife Shellie of doing something similar after she gathered her belongings and moved out of their home. He's also been pulled over three times since the Trayvon Martin ruling - receiving one speeding ticket and two warnings. Just recently, I read a blog written by the most boring voice in man's history - Ben Stein, entitled, "The Trayvon Martin case is worrying me." This blog bounced around like a lightning-speed pinball, but mainly focused on the Trayvon Martin case - how George Zimmerman was a "poor soul" in this whole ordeal (even though he's still living), that the liberal media made him out to be a "Klansman," and he basically insinuated that African-Americans are lazy and violent people, whom need our prayers - because closing our eyes and thinking about someone's problems will make them magically disappear (from our minds). Following the George Zimmerman ruling and President Obama's emotional speech regarding race in America, it seems that many far-right wing media outlets and talking heads tried to make it a point that racism doesn't exist in this country and George Zimmerman had every right to shoot and kill Trayvon Martin. What's the deal recently with Florida cops or wannabe cops shooting unarmed black people? First, George Zimmerman was found not guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting and killing of unarmed Trayvon Martin, because, well, it's purely self-defense to follow someone you find suspicious after being told not to do so by actual cops and then when the person being stalked feels threatened and defends himself, to shoot and kill him. That's self-defense 101 right there. More recently, Florida police officers fired 15 shots at unarmed 60-year old Roy Middleton in the driveway of his and his mother's home. There was a 911 call that evening for a car theft. Once the cops arrived at the scene and Middleton turned around, thinking the whole thing was a practical joke played by a neighbor, the cops opened fire on him and wound up shooting him in the leg, while also striking his mother's car and the side of the house. Just as I suspected, that George Zimmerman hero story appears to have been exaggerated to a certain degree. Now, for the second time since the ruling of his case, Zimmerman is back in the news, and this time, for something not quite as positive. Zimmerman was caught speeding yesterday, with a gun in his glove compartment. After the officer asked where Zimmerman was going, he said, "Nowhere in particular." It's been reported that Zimmerman also asked the cop if he recognized him from television. I wonder how Fox News will attempt to try and spin this story. A strange development has come about courtesy of the Buckeye Firearms Foundation in light of the U.S. Department of Justice asking police to "keep possession of all the evidence from George Zimmerman's second-degree murder trial," in all likelihood, so a federal investigation can take place on the matter. Is it just me or does this new George Zimmerman story about him rescuing a family from a car crash sound fishy? If it is true, he should be commended for the act. However, the once 100 lbs. lighter neighborhood watch volunteer, who had trouble handling a 17-year old kid he had followed, rescued a family from a car crash after reportedly gaining 100 lbs.? Even stranger, the trapped family has been "unidentified" at this point and a lot of the details of the accident have been vague to be kind. It was a "single-car accident," involved a "blue Ford Explorer SUV," which had "left the road and rolled over," but resulted in "no reports of injuries" to the four occupants of the vehicle. So, George Zimmerman's defense attorney - Mark O'Mara - has come forward after the jury ruled that his client was not guilty and said that if his client had been black, he wouldn't have been charged with a crime. Is that supposed to be some kind of a sick joke? In a country where the majority is white and there's a history of racism, especially against blacks, O'Mara firmly believes if his client had been black, he wouldn't have been charged with any crime? A study was just released by the American Civil Liberties Union, which along with many other such studies, which begs to differ with Mr. O'Mara's claim. While marijuana rates are roughly equal among whites and blacks, blacks are being arrested at much greater rate than whites for marijuana-related offenses.
