We have far more important things to worry about than Melania's shoes...

When walking to Air Force One, en route to Texas, which was ravaged by Hurricane Harvey, First Lady Melania Trump donned a pair of thin heels. When the First Lady and her husband landed, she walked out in a pair of sneakers. So what's the big story from many on the left? The image Ms. Trump wearing heels in such a situation projects - that she can't empathize with the victims of the storm, won't even try to empathize, takes money and possessions for granted, and cares more about her appearance than the livelihoods of the hurricane victims. Look, I for one have never been able to stand heels and, while I agree it may not have been the best of looks for the First Lady in such a situation, we have much more important things to criticize and worry about than her shoes. I may be in the minority here, but I care far more about a leader's words and actions than I do about his/her appearance. When then President Obama was criticized for wearing a tan suit, my immediate reacti...

Happy Hollimasukkah!

It seems that on an annual basis, around this time of year, I hear people show anger or annoyance at those who express seasons greeting differently than them. Emerald Fuddyduddy: "Happy Holidays!" Russell Zoloft: "No, it's Merry Christmas! What are you, a fricking atheist?!?" Fuddyduddy: "Seasons Greetings!" Zoloft: "Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! You can't spell 'Christ' without 'Christmas,' or something like that!" I'm sorry, but who cares? Fox News likes to clamor on about an alleged "War on Christmas" because an increasing number of people are telling each other "Happy Holidays" as opposed to "Merry Christmas," but that's a bigger myth than Santa Claus being healthy enough to travel the world on December 25th of every year without facing any repercussions. Again, who cares? It's not like when someone says "Happy Holidays," they're re...

Don't be embarrassed by the music you like...

So, I was reading through some comments on a music messageboard and had to chuckle some. The conversation centered around the feeling of embarrassment when others became cognizant that they liked a particular musician or started singing the lyrics to one of their songs. My first thought when reading these comments was, "What is this, high school?" Granted, it appeared that most of these people were in their upper-teens to mid-20s, but still... Who really cares? I've never been a fan of boy-bands, country music, or most rap, but when I hear someone else listening to it, I don't think to myself, "How can they listen to that out in public like that? They should be so embarrassed! " As the saying goes, "To each their own." This is why I sometimes disregard reviews by music critics, because if a critic hates a certain musician or genre of music and is forced to review that particular band or genre, the chances run high that he or she won't care fo...

Macho vs. "girly" drinks: Who really cares?

A week ago tomorrow was Cinco de Mayo, which has become, like The Nightly Show host Larry Wilmore put it, "The Mexican version of St. Paddy's Day." I joined my mother at a Mexican restaurant where we both consumed one margarita a piece (I know, we were getting crazy). Afterward, I discussed the restaurant and holiday with someone, whom responded by saying, "Aren't margaritas girly drinks?" I kind of laughed at this question at first, because when thinking back to everyone ordering margaritas at the restaurant, I thought to myself, "I saw anyone and everyone, from 21-year-old college girls to 80-year-old men, from women under 5 feet tall to men close to 7 feet tall and 350 lbs. drinking these things." Not really caring what people thought of men drinking margaritas, but still curious on if they were commonly thought of as "girly" drinks, I did some research on the matter and sadly discovered that a number of people do believe such a thing....

Another ESPN article which makes me ask the question, "Why?"

Like with the article I wrote about yesterday, which claimed that New York Jets starting quarterback Mark Sanchez wasn't going to second-guess head coach Rex Ryan's ridiculous decision to put him in behind an inexperienced offensive line in the 4th quarter of the team's third preseason game, I'm again asking "why?" with regard to an ESPN article which was published today - as in, "Why did this article ever need to be written?" The headline of today's article is, "Robert Kraft 'rooting for' Tim Tebow." Tebow completed just 1 of 7 pass attempts in the team's August 16th preseason game, for -1 yard, and an interception. He didn't play at all in the game last Thursday. So, what is no one outside of ESPN asking? "Will Tim Tebow make the 53-man roster?" I don't know, but let's ask New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft about matters. In response to such a question, Kraft said this: "I'm rooti...

Chuck Norris encourages Jacksonville to sign Tim Tebow

I seriously thought an article I read this morning was by The Onion when I first saw it, but I guess it's the real deal. Action-film legend Chuck Norris wrote an op-ed column on the conservative site Newsbusters encouraging the Jacksonville Jaguars to sign former New York Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow. In the column, Norris wrote: "Tebow is a player who rises to the occasion and delivers big in critical moments. He reminds me of myself when I used to compete in martial arts." I'm sure, at his age, Norris does rise to the occasion, thanks to Viagra. Seriously, though, why in the world would an NFL football team take the advice from an elderly former movie star on who they should sign? ...and why would this former movie star think they would heed his advice? In my mind, this is what Chuck Norris should have written in the column: "I may not have played high school football, college ball, pro ball, or even watched the sport very much, but I know a ...

Skeet-Shooting-Gate

Not long after President Obama mentioned that he goes skeet shooting rather regularly when at Camp David and the White House released a photo of the president skeet shooting were multiple conspiracies born via right-wing media outlets. What were some of these conspiracy theories? Allow me to share them with you... Michael Harlin, writer for The American Thinker (obviously that's not the case, but anyway...), had the following to say - "Now, what's wrong with the president's picture? First the weapon is nearly level to the ground. Can't be skeet shooting, nor likely trap either." Yes, because with tensions near and far to worry about, the first thing on President Obama's mind is to photoshop a picture of him skeet shooting or to lie about skeet shooting. President's priority list is as follows: 1) Improve the economy 2) End the war in Afghanistan 3) Convince the country he goes skeet shooting while at Camp David Mr. Harlin had more to say a...

How I love Hollywood tabloid journalism

So, I just read an article today which mentioned that Hollywood hunk Ryan Gosling is set to propose to Hollwyood babe Eva Mendes. It also suggested that Ms. Mendes isn't too warm with the idea. No, I couldn't care less about this or any other Hollywood relationship, but I do find it kind of funny. So, Mendes is bound to be quite surprised when Gosling proposes to her, considering she likely read this article regarding it. Then again, reading that Mendes isn't really interested in marriage may alter Gosling's mind some, which may prevent him from asking the big question. Oh, how wonderful it'd be to, instead of proposing to someone with an element of surprise, be able to just point to an article about it and say, "So, do you want to...and stuff?" Yes, that's romance right there! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/14/ryan-gosling-ready-propose-eva-mendes_n_1885203.html?utm_hp_ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false#sb=735358,b=facebook#sb=735358,...
